NY chicken lover!!!!

I had a little Christmas miracle. When I went out to close up the coop for the night and catch Craig (my last duck) I couldn't find him...Well guess where he was..already in the chicken coop in the crate that I put in there for him all nice and tucked in the straw for the night.

I was sooooo happy!!!

Does anyone have a duck(s) that they would like to rehome or sell?

I'm going to start to look for a friend for Craig. I think he would like it to have another duck friend. (dh hasn't said no when i brought it up).

Great ! he is a smart little ducky ! No Ducks here just chickens

And all this talk about help.......I have severe cervical injuries and tend to only ask for help lifting heavy stuff when I am in more pain than usual. More because I am stubborn and like to keep my chiro in business lol. But I do have to say that at my local feed store automatically loads my car without asking. But no one has ever offered at TSC. must be why I buy everything I can at the feed store

As for men opening doors, etc........it's very , very rare for guys my age (42) or younger to do it. Tho of course I tend to beat them to the door and open it before they get there........
Cute Story ...they could talk to their chickens ...LOL
I find Men are more polite to me when I am wearing a dress. All ages ...Let me go ahead ..hold doors , etc
If I am just dressed casually they arent as polite or helpful ..

Well I went to TSC and bought a Little giant to hatch out of. But I will be returning it tomorrow I think. They changed the design of it and there are no liners for it yet. I don't know if I want to try and clean Styrofoam. Seems like it would be a pain in the rear to clean.

Couldn't you use some parchment paper (for baking) in the bottom of the incubator, as a liner? And that would be easier than cleaning it out, just throw the paper out. (Parchment paper is meant to be heated in the oven to the temperature that you bake cookies and cakes at, so I would think it would be totally safe in the 'bator)

Edited to add: You'll find it in the baking aisle of the supermarket

Gramma, she's 37 and lives next door :) We are sad, but not devastated. We lost so many this year to accident, illness, and unknown causes. We spent this evening talking about whether to continue with the buff rocks or focus on a different breed next spring. Her cockerel (Spike) is almost 6 months old and is huddled up to her big white rock hen for company and warmth. Whatever happened was quick because she watered the chickens, fed her horses, and Sassy was gone when she came back with the chicken feed. Not sure if the older flock did something or if she might have broken her neck when she flew out of her pen and may have slammed into the other coop.
Oh well ...it still hurts to loose a chicken ...Sounds like you have a lovely neighbor ...What a joy to have her living next door .
It could be the interaction between the flocks ...older hens can be really mean .
The older hens we were given.. taught our young ones ..bad pecking habits . Now they all peck down the line to the youngest .
Before them they all got along & never pecked each other .

For Christmas I got a LARGE metal bucket, an IOU for a duck house, the 2 pound whitman sampler and Final Touch Fresh Expressions "happy" fragrance washer additive AND fabric softner.

My mother is scandalized; in total shock at my delight with my gifts. She cannot imagine asking for a metal bucket as a gift. But the one I have been using for wood ashes requires I got outside TWICE to empty it. Once a day is enough for me and the larger bucket allows me to do just that; go outside once a day to empty ashes. She wears a size 4 clothing. Yes, ladies, barbie doll clothing. A WHITMAN SAMPLER? I don't think she knew they came in 2# sizes. LOL As far as the Final touch products---when I opened that gift bag Ray said "do you know how much that stuff cost?" Ahhh, yeah....that's why I wanted it as a gift. LOL. I love that scent and wanted to have both additives in the house at the same time, so my clothes can really smell good.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. (I had to work, but made the best of it)

Yeah if I keep it may do that but I'm thinking of just returning it and getting a different one later.

Lol I probably wouldn't be alive to get on here. Although we are trying to get this Little giant to hold a steady temp and man it is a pain. The dial is so picky. It goes from 104 to 89-90 with barely a nudge. She is talking about taking it back and just buying a better bator. Come tax season I may have my sportsman yet lol.

I would think so. The gunk from the hatch gets in between the stuff. I bleach mine just a little and then let it air dry for a while so the chlorine smell goes away. Just the bottom of course. The top of my 1588 I wipe with baby wipes and get as much as I can.

I did see the story and it does make some sense. When ever we are out the chickens all come around and seem more relaxed. Of course they may just be hoping for a treat but I can dream can't I ? They do ten to spend more time roaming about when I'm out working in the yard though. Normally they're all in one spot of the yard together.

I once got slammed in the head by a bird flying out of the hoop coop door. I get out of the way now. I wait til they're all out before sticking my head in to check on things or do anything around the door. I was worried they'd gotten hurt. I know I did.

With the hoops they come flying off the roost and into the yard. The EE's can go pretty far too.

Please be careful with the wood ashes. I can see the excitement over a metal bucket. I like anything for my chickens. I often ask for a gift card to TSC. Which by the way, I've always been treated very well. I go to the East Syracuse, store. They know my by name. I wish they had a cafe.

Hello all, I am in Cortland, NY. Does anyone have turkey or chicken hatching eggs for sale? I don't have great luck with shipped eggs.
