NY chicken lover!!!!

Well since it stopped raining and I decided to go out and clean out that duck house. That was a mistake! That thing was so wet and so full of hay/shavings that the bottom tray of the coop was completely falling apart. So I removed it completely and stapled a folded up tarp to the bottom of it. This way I can continue to throw shavings and hay in there without it turning into mud from being directly on the lawn. It's so muddy and gross out there. YUCK! I cannot wait to move the coops back up the top of the yard and throw seed down along the back of the house. I'm actually thinking of ordering more poultry netting so I can let the silkies and whatever bantams I add out in the yard to "free range" this summer. Or maybe I'll just give them the one I have now. Since it'll just be the trio of Orps they can go do what they want in the yard, there's no need to have them inside the netting. I plan on keeping the 2 EEs in with the bantams.

I used the break in the cold to launch a war on frostbite and the humidity in my coop. I bought some sweet PDZ, did a full coop clean out, put down a layer of PDZ, then bedding (although, TSC sold me some bedding that wasn't compacted so even though it usually takes me a bag and half to do my coop I put down two full bags and still have a bare spot, grr) and then PDZ on top, especially under the roosts. I also installed two new vents. Yes, all in the rain. I'm either really dedicated or really stupid.

And I picked up five blue silkie chicks today. They are such cute buggers and I'm so happy to have them after my faverolles all died :( Hopefully I'll get a nice little breeding group from them and will have eggs come May or June.

What is antlerless deer season? I've been hearing shoots today
it is the hunting of deer without antlers

They are females. They call them antler less because a "doe permit" includes male deer with antlers up to 1". In ny this is the first year they extended the normal deer season because of the overpopulation. I believe it is for the next three weeks for just does.

Ohhhhhh I see. I'm not a hunter so I never would have known that. But I did read how how they were extending some hunting seasons due to over population of animals.

Everyone talking about crocheting and knitting. This is one of the rugs I braid. This one is from RAGS. Most of the rugs in our house I made. We built our own house and money was scarce...so when my husband was working on finish wood work...I would be making the rugs. I do knit and crochet. Regards, Aria
