NY chicken lover!!!!

Rancher not only did you out dibs me on the lav roo but now you are feeding my chicken math problem. You gave me an idea for a hybrid pallet/welded wire coop. Was just going to build a small 4x8 elevated coop but now I can go bigger, and it is your fault. I blame you and am going to stick with that.

Happy to oblige.

I was gonna order my eggs but I'm not sure it's the right time. The eggs are to important to risk to the cold. Last batch I got 8 for 12 chicks. Eggs laying is up.

I have to snow blow but am waiting since they keep saying tons of snow, but so far nothing. I do need to do it before DW comes home from work.

It was a bear getting the wagon through what is out there now.

CM has shavings on sale this week end. I asked about Nobles and they said they can't get any. Nobles has a problem? I may contact them and see if and when they're up and running again if they can just stop here and dump off ten bales. CM is just around the corner and I'm near the 690 entrance/exit.

TSC did sell me two bales for the CM sale price, but then I'm in there alot and buy a lot too.

Crzy thing is, I got a notice from TSC about what I bought there all year and some coupons for stuff I don't use. 40% off Wrangler jeans , $10 off 4Health dog food, $5 off 40# bag of sunflower seed, (CM has it for $19 a 50#) , 10% off All gates and corral panels, 10% off All hydraulic fluid, and 10% off all grease and grease guns. They're good to the 16th.

I will mail them to anyone who really needs them.

The other thing is their log of how much I spent and what I bought was only for two months. I've been shopping there for more than 5 yrs. You would think they'd include a coupon for some type of poultry feed or items.

PS. I just ordered 15 Lav Ameraucana chicks because of you. (I love that color.) I want to bread then with the black roo I did get. If I have any extras I might keep you in mind. Lol

I kept a roo from last time and boy is he gorgeous. Nice black with green sheen and a wide chest. Very nice. I'm glad no one took him. His dad would be the lav roo I traded away.

I will have a few questions when I get started I think. but I probably can figure the rest out.
I did take some pics of one hoop as I built it. Writing measurements on the pieces. I can clarify any you might need. Of course you can modify them to suit your plan.

The spacer ensures the posts are centered and can be used for the bottom of the door.

You can see the blocks of wood I used for support since I work alone. I did get bonked on the head a few times, but the damage was done long ago, so I'm find.

Sooooo Bored! I wish I had a larger, less creepy, somewhat finished basement so I could build a coop...or something...LOL

Those pics are helpful. Thanks fore taking the time dig them up.

What did you tie the top in with?

I can't really say except it's usuall 5* warmer in the hoop pictured than the wooden coop. I had to take part of the plastic off the run cuz it does get the morning sun and is warm. If you build one I would place it so the front is facing the morning sun.

I have hung a fan inside the run cuz the temps get quite high.

My shaded hoop is not so hot. It sits just inside the woods. This is how it's been all winter. The roo did get frost bit. Last year no. The back looks open but it's covered with feed bags. In the summer it's hidden by the trees.

love the hoop idea I have some panels I was going to make little cold houses for the garden this year but this looks very dooable! I bet it does stay warmer than wood.
