NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning All!

Feeling a tad better today. Sleeping wasn't too bad. The biggest struggle for me is just trying to sit and rest my back. I never sit! I'm constantly go go go.

JLAW - sooo happy to hear your finally getting some help with the pellet stove! That definitely was a good day for you!!!

Lap - I've heard that about the Aleve, that's why I'm trying not to take it today. I feel better than yesterday. Able to get around, for out this morning and fed everyone. It's not too bad. As long as I don't overdo it.

Glass - Ive been taking breaks here and there and trying to just bend over, stretch to one side to keep it from getting stiff. It definitely helps.

I started to read the posts I missed this week and then gave up.

Yesterday I got stuck in the end of my driveway because it snowed so much while I was at work. I had to carry the baby in seat, diaper bag, purse, lunch box, and my pump through a foot of snow to the house while the older 2 girls walked with me. My 4yr old was like "Mommy this is hard!" Me " Sorry baby but I can't carry you too just keep putting one foot forward you can do it". DH got half the driveway cleared and then had problems with the snowblower. He was able to get the vehicles to the garage though. He's outside now clearing the rest of the driveway. We have a monster driveway.

Glad you are getting some relief!

Cass, I sent it air mail. I've watched my husband suffer for more than two weeks taking OTC meds, so I am choosing to breath steamy water with cinnamon, oregano and ginger in it, it smells really good, a tea of chopped ginger that I then chew like gum. It will probably take two or three weeks no matter what I do, but it is too good to keep to myself. The house smells great, says DH.

I'll admit it. I laughed at the post regarding "shoveling out the run for the chickens", and thought "it'll be a cold day in a very warm place when you catch me doing THAT".

Now guess what I just did? Shoveled a path through my run so the chickens and ducks can get out the people door at the end of the run. Why? Well, two things happened. One: Ray found my shovel. The one that is light enough for me to lift heavy snow with. And Two: We have over 30 inches of snow on the ground between the two storms and the pop door was totally blocked by snow (limiting ventalation from that part of the coop) So there I am, grumbling about not tarping the top of the run like I had planned to do this fall (thanks mom and your demands to move before eviction) and shoveling a path through the run so I can get the pop door cleared out.

Are the chickens using it? Of course not. They are delighted that I finally shoveled the people path to the front door and are walking in and out the people door like it is just the right size for their small bodies. Go figure.

Yuck. You do have a monster driveway. Can the snowblower be fixed? Is there someone driving down the road with a plow on the front you can flag down and pay him cash to clear it out for ya? (I once stood in the road and flagged down a passing Bronco with a plow on it to pull my brother's truck back up on the driveway when the plow on the front if his truck pulled him over the bank on the side of the driveway, so I know people will stop. Of course it was stop or hit me, so he stopped. Then he wouldn't take any money. Talk about nice guys)

Tell Tavis to take it easy. He is in good shape, for sure, but all that shoveling will make even the best of us ache the next day if he doesn't take it easy.

Made me giggle Cass :)

Bright side is, that with that much snow it is probably good you didn't tarp the run, might have collapsed.

A PT once told me to lay on my stomach on the bed and lift opposite arm and leg. It does help but I forget to do them. Wouldn't it be nice if we craved exercise like we do chocolate ? Perhaps we need someone on here to post a reminder everyday?

They can come on everyday and say, "OKAY YOU COUCH POTATOES GET UP OFFA THAT THANG AND STRETCH THOSE MUSCLES! "

I think it would be nice to have an exercise commercial or commercials that come on and say, "We interrupt Duck Dynasty so you can get up and do some crunchies, instead of eat them ! " or " We interrupt this program so you can put down that bag of crunchies and do some you lazy thang!." Oh and my favorite would be is if they had an exercise commercial that was just, KC and the Sunshine Band playing , "Shake your bootie, shake your bootie for three minutes " I could shake it and rearrange the living room at the same time.

That would be so funny and potentially effective. I know they have segments like that on my DD channels (like nickjr and disney). BTW, I am a chiropractor, so feel free to PM me if you have questions. I don't practice in NY, but I have lots of colleagues who do (and I know folks at the college in Seneca Falls, so I can help you find a good doc).

Hey all, I have a ? for you guys more expierenced than my self.

I have several EE's in my mixed layer flock they all have beards & puffy cheeks. I also have 2 Am roos in this flock. I have seen the rir/ red sexlinks picking the feathers out of the face of my Lave roo & the Lav EE hen. They don't bother with any of the other's faces. I had to move the Lav EE to a different pen and the Lav roo's face is now missing the beard & puffs. Any ideas ? I supplement their feed with black oil sunflower seed & hi-pro cat food. It's just these 2 birds.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated

For acute injuries ice packs should to be applied. If you're applying to a back area, make sure you don't "freeze" the skin. On 10-15 minutes, then off. Ibuprofen works well as it is an anti-inflammatory and will assist the muscle in reducing in size. Keep in mind that the etiology with muscle strain is edema (swelling) of the myofibrils and therefore they cannot "move" smoothly. Avoid heat in an acute injury, it'll increase the edema in the myofibrils and make moving more difficult. Heat therapy is best reserved for chronic conditions like osteoarthritis.
If it's a vertebral issue, slipped disk, chiropractors are wonderful for that kind of thing.
Hope you feel better soon!

Just saw the Toyota commercial! Lol That IS funny!

DH brought home some heat patches for my back, I think it's scorching the skin off my back rather than healing the pain IN my back! Ugh!

Bought one of those things you put in the microwave for DW. She gets leg cramps real bad. Put it in the micro for 2 mins and it's good to go. Gets real hot at that but 11/2 is good.

Be careful don't exchange one injury for another.
