Hi ya Cat. Can I ask why you'd want to move TO New York when many of us would rather move away?   Don't know a great deal of Broome County but Chickenstalker I think is from down that way.  

I'm from Binghamton originally, I'm a disabled veteran and my family are all there. I can't deal with the heat in the south, had some heat injuries Iraq so I need to get back up north. I need to be able to keep my chickens, they are good therapy for PTSD. Thanks for the lead, I will check on Chickenstalker.

I like to never put all my eggs in one basket and that's why I use both the Ivermectin/Exprenex and the DE.

I use an eye dropper and put it on at night in the dark with a head light on. This way I can use both hands and still see. I put it between the shoulder blades. I just do down the line while they roost. Be sure to talk to them as they know your voice and it will calm them. The bottle has more than enough for a small flock, so I store it in the refrigerator. Notice the expiration date. I am aware others have their own system of dealing with things. I just offer this as a suggestion. We all have to do what allows us to sleep at night.

I'm seeing people are using a couple drops of Frontline too now. I may try that if the need really arises. There is not much data on the time or if you need to not eat the eggs or meat for a few weeks or what.. I imagine it would be smart to wait.

I watched a show about a farm on PBS and the guy said the first thing the do is bring in Hogs. Hogs are "rooters". They root for grubs and roots and things like that. They break up the soil and clear the area. They don't necessarily eat the weeds but make it hard for them to grow. Much like chickens when they scratch, exposing the weed roots. So they dry out and die.

Was it here we talked about growing Garlic? I have an old copy of Heirloom Gardening that has an article on garlic, the different types of garlic and how to grow it. I can send it to you if you pay the postage.

That is so true.. hogs are like little bulldozers they do a really good job getting a garden spot ready.
