Lynzi I keep track of eggs laid daily. I can tell the 4 tots eggs apart from the big girls. So I keep track of who laid when.

All I did was print a calendar off Microsoft word for the year & mark every day who laid what. It's also how I keep track of when I give them meat, herbs, etc. I can also keep track of their ages as well.

It's pretty cool to see the number off eggs I get a week, month or year and see as they increase or decrease with the weather

Same here, I can tell the difference between my splash silkie and lavender so I figured why not? This way if they stop all of a sudden say in April or May, I'll know how long they laid for prior to that. This is the first time this year they've laid so I figured I might as well.

Just got in from checking on the silkies in the shed. When I was walking up there I noticed these little footprints in the snow...

Before DH left I had him set another trap out front now that a lot of the snow has melted and they can make their way out. Yesterday morning I went out there to see if we caught anything. At first I couldn't even where he placed the trap. Then I happened to notice all these new holes dug near the foundation. The base of our front porch has these stones cemented to it and one had falled off. Well DH stuck the trap in the crevice under that stone on the ground. When I took a peek in there was a rat caught in the trap! YUCK! I cannot believe we have MORE of these nasty things! These tracks this morning are new and when I followed where they came from they led the front porch. So now I'm dying for DH to get home tomorrow, get rid of the dead rat and put another out there. UGH!!!!

I keep track of mine to ever since they started to lay last summer. I also keep track of how long things last me. It is cool to see each month how may eggs they have laid.

My pekin ducks are laying up a storm and have been the past few weeks.

My ducks aren't laying yet but my goose has been laying for a while. I'm hoping the ducks start up before she decides to sit, otherwise I'll have to get hatching eggs for her.

I like to never put all my eggs in one basket and that's why I use both the Ivermectin/Exprenex and the DE.

I use an eye dropper and put it on at night in the dark with a head light on. This way I can use both hands and still see. I put it between the shoulder blades. I just do down the line while they roost. Be sure to talk to them as they know your voice and it will calm them. The bottle has more than enough for a small flock, so I store it in the refrigerator. Notice the expiration date. I am aware others have their own system of dealing with things. I just offer this as a suggestion. We all have to do what allows us to sleep at night.

The reason I ask, is I currently have a Notheren Fowl Mite infestation. There are 3-4 birds that are bad, and the rest have a few here and there. I know it if the NF Mite, because they are on them 24/7 and visable to the egg.

I have dusted 2 times, and epernex'd once and the same 3 are still really bad.

I am currently trying a permetherin spray treatment that I read about. The only problem with that, is that I need to coop the birds in the garage (45 degrees) for almost a day to let them dry, and I only have enough room for 6 birds. So It will take me 5-6 days to treat everyone if the test bird responds.

I put sand in the coop to dust bath in, and it froze into a big solid lump.

They are probably living in the litter. Take it all out and throw it away or burn it. Then spray anything wood with neem oil.

My Dels are laying great but I noticed that the Araucana roos isn't getting the job done with the EE girls. I wonder can they mate with regular girls?

My Marans are always good layers and while I did notice two in the coop this afternoon, they are usually late layers.

Marq, have eggs in the bator only one wasn't any good.

I am tired. OMG, baked BBQ chicken. Scrubbing pans til my hands wanted to fall off. Thank God we got some extra help. Have to go in tomorrow too. Hamburgers. Might not be too bad.

My shoulder hurts, time for some more pills.

I forgot. TSC gets their chicks and ducks from Mt. Healthy . I'm going to email them to see if they will be sending any geeses.

Cruds! Their web site only shows Mallard or Pekins. I know TSC got KC's last year.

I'm actually a little nervous about them since it's so cold out. Metzer said they would only contact me if the couldn't ship. I never received anything from them so I'll be stopping in the PO tomorrow with my fingers crossed that they are all healthy and made trip. I've been reading a lot of threads and reviews on Metzer and I have yet to come across any that had bad luck with them. I even read that IF just one doesn't make the trip they will send another 2 out so the one they are sending as a replacement isn't alone and has some warmth.

You need to treat the coop too. The nasty thing with mites is they get off the birds and into the coop and live in the litter and wood. Also, DE is a good preventative, but it doesn't kill adult mites well. You need to dust with something strong like Sevin. My advice is buy some Sevin, dust all your birds. Then tear the coop apart, wash it with gentle soap and water, change the litter, and dust itall over with the Sevin or better yet spray it with the Permethrin since it will get into gaps in the wood better than the Sevin will. Repeat in seven to ten days because this won't kill the eggs, so you need to go again when they hatch to completely wipe them out or you will just end up reinfested. Edited to add treating them in intervals like that wouldn't work anyway because as you put them back in with non-treated birds they'd just get reinfested. Spraying them kills the bugs on them but doesn't make them immune to reinfestation after. As soon as it wore off they'd just have them again. Mites are nasty little things.
