NY chicken lover!!!!

I think chipmunks - mine are active and I have seen them do the hop thing.

Cass - a poor day when a TEACHER doesn't listen and learn. If he listened he would have learned a better way to handle the hatch lesson, which includes when to start it. Sigh. No offense to good teachers out there - but this is one reason our society is going bankrupt - if parents can homeschool (and they have not been to college for teaching certs and can't specialize in a grade or topic) then why the hell does it seem so hard at school ? Because of all the non-learning non-sense that goes on. Our schools now are social dumps. Blah.

Cold - I'm feeling so bad for my chickies - but they gave me 10 TEN! eggs yesterday - a new record for this young flock.

rat tracks usually have tail marks , rats do run when in the wide open, think of how vulnerable they are to predators, especially when highlighted against the snow. owls at night, hawks in the day and coyote, foxes 24/7 are trying to eat these guys, so when they are vulnerable they will run to safety

Morning all. Put 38 eggs in the bator this morning. Got my fingers crossed for a good hatch. Heard a commotion outside this morning and looked out to see Legolas randy son chasing around one of the girls. She wasnt having any of his nonsense. Legolas just stood by. Hes too laid back for his own good. Then again, his son is bigger than he is. Anyways, I may take that randy boy and put him in solitary for a few days to cool his jets. He is a handsome devil and will be a good asset to someones breeding program. I am hoping that everyone gives me lots of eggs today.

Cass--teachers loss not yours. I find that way too many people want something for nothing these days. I have learned to say no as I have been burned too many times.

Lynzi--looks like squirrel tracks to me. When they dare venture into my yard (aka shooting gallery) thats what they look like.

Pyxis--good luck with your hatch. Save some room cause you have more coming your way!

Off to the pharm for a phun philled day.

I would say maybe but these tracks go UNDER my shed - which isn't a lot of space at all, under my porch and lead to the holes in the ground in my front yard.

Omg! I just realized what you've got there. BORROWERS!!

I am not feeling good. I hope I'm not getting sick. I can not afford to get sick. I have to much to do to be sick. I am not a good patient when I'm sick. I hate being sick. If I get sick it will not be pretty around here. On top of the crappy cold to be sick is not fair. There is no sun and that makes me sick too.

These duckling drink a lot of water.

Just went by the TSC in Saratoga - they had two little 'random' pullet chicks huddled up all by themselves in one bin. Tried to convince a guy buying red pullets to get those, hopefully he did. :) Some straight run 'black giants' and really cute ducks. Thankfully, I managed to abstain. :)

I think most of the chicks and stuff TSC get's are generics. Which is probably why folks don't realize there are other "breeds" of chickens.

I'm not sure why hatcheries do that. It' takes no more to hatch a purebred chick than a hybrid. Not to mention most folks get chickens for pets and Purebreds are more likely to live longer.

Did you invite him to join us here on BYC? I've written the web site on the back of my cards so folks remember.

Morning Everyone,
Heading out to Cortland TS to meet someone who wants a bunny. Contemplating taking a look inside to see what they have but I do not need another chick or duckling so I think I better stay out. I should pick up another bag of feed while I'm there though so we'll see. I'll have to leave my debit card home and just stick to bringing enough cash for feed.

Agreed. I guess my biggest complaint is CCing the entire school district with his reply. And I absolutely CANNOT agree that those teachers have "taken all precautions" like he claims....why? Because of the friggin' low hatch rates. If you took ALL PRECAUTIONS then you would have had at least a 50% hatch rate, right? And they have Auto-turners. OMG and hatched less than 25%? What the heck did they do to those eggs? Put them in the fridge for a week? No. They set them right about the time I put the last few I collected under my hen, cuz they hatched at the same time. So I am totally stumped as to how someone who has "done this unit many times" AND has an auto turner could hatch so friggin' few chicks. Hatching eggs cost big bucks. I could have gotten $10 a dozen just as hatching eggs....so basically I GAVE them $40, in addition to my school taxes. I expected to get about 20 chicks from the hatch. I got 8. And, of course, most of those were roos. Grrr... But getting past the low hatch rates, when you are corresponding with a "vendor" you don't CC EVERYONE in the school. Your supervisor and that's it. Right?
