Well I did it I wasn't wanting to but I did. I bought animals from TSC. I was weak and I bought some KC's. I was going to order eggs and hatch out at easter time because I wanted runners but I decided I wanted some now not later. So we now have 7 ducklings in the house and man they are so much softer than chicks. I'm going to have to make a pool for they're brooder though.
Well off to get them set up I just cleaned out a brooder and was letting it air dry some.
Have you no self control? Well like I said Storey's says the lay 340 so lets hope they do for you.
Storey's says : " Mrs. Adele Campbell of England in the 1800's, developed them. They are a cross of a British Fawn and white, runner hen. She bred it first ot a Rouen to increase size. Later she used a Mallard drake to increase hardiness and foraging ability.
Adele succeeded in increasing the size for carcass production while maintaining reasonably good laying ability. Later breeders worked on increasing egg production and by the 1920's the Campbell became recognized as the most abundant layer in duckdom, pumping out as many as 340 medium size eggs per year. "
Now seriously here: I have to be careful to NOT become a "collector". You know one of those people who collects cats and dogs. I try to remember them so I don't become a chicken collector.
I worry about that some nights. I've got more eggs than I can sell now. Plus chickens too.
Sonew - has those auto sex birds and I'd like to get some. I do think I can cull the roo chicks on hatching.
I will be parting with the orignal BM hens once I get a few more replacements. The same with the Delawares.
I plan to rearrange the coops. So if I get that done and can keep 12 hens per breed plus two roos with each, I might be able to keep things at 50.
That would be BM's, Dels, CR's, BR's and EE's. 12 hens times 5 = 50 right? Roosters don't count. Right? I'm going to need to take a sleeping pill tonight.
I need an intervention. Do they have AA type meetings for us?
