They really are just another mouth to feed unless of course you have a garden and are going to use their droppings for fertilizer. I don't have a garden here so they are pretty much free loaders. I like to have a litter or two a year so I can at least make some money back to put towards feed. I'm hoping to get to a show this year with the mini satins just to see how they'd do.

Use your imagination. Bag the manure and sell it. Even a dollar for a small bag is better than nothing. Figure about the size of a brown paper grocery bag. Set a table near the road and you're in business. I wouldn't think of getting rabbits if you were near me.

I figure if I put the hutch near my compost piles I could let the manure fall right into the pile and work it with the chicken manure and grass clippings.

Well if you have a garden then you DO need them. Their poop is good stuff. I don't know where the saying came from but if you ask me some people NEED a hole in the head to let the wind blow the cob webs away.

Well, they say if its fertile, it will hatch in one of these, so going to give it a try.

I'm so used to having a chick hatch early that I'm worried cuz only one has a pip. Not a sound either. I can't understand why.

The temp is a 99.3 on the highest of these two therm. The newest one is too low.

I'm not happy.

I'm trying to make sure things are okay before my CR eggs come.

Evening all. Nothing like dealing with rude, impatient people who treat you like their personal servant all day. Days like this make me love my chickens even more! Came home to find legolas and wenches in the driveway. Had to pull in slow so I didnt run one over. Silly silkies. Got 9 eggs today. At least production is going up, not down. I was afraid this cold would make them stop or slow down again. Burned my hand on the stove tonight. Didnt feel it till it burned as I have little feeling in my hands. Could be worse, doesnt look bad now.

Thinking about taking a vacation to Alaska. Its warmer up there right now. Later

Being rude is the norm these days. Lots of angry people out there be careful. This is an old girlfriend of mine and she can't understand why I broke up with her. ( I sobered up). And this is her "happy" face.

My "new" Farmmaster redwood incubator.I have to buy a new heating element, but that is only $14. Of course, it needs to be cleaned up & badly in need of some oiling on the outside...says it holds 600 eggs, but I doubt it. Unless its Banty eggs.

What a fantastic beast! Looking forward to seeing pics of the refurb! I've heard these old bators are wonderfully stable. Probably was a little rough to move though. Have fun!
