NY chicken lover!!!!

So I candled my mixed batch of eggs and I'm six for six on EEs, six for eight on leghorns, and all the mystery browns are developing. Woo! I'm thinking the only reason those two leghorns aren't coming along is because it was so cold and those two might have sat out overnight in it, since sometimes the leghorn girl is a late layer.

Now I'm off to call the hatchery because they still haven't said yet either way whether they're sending my chicks and gosling yet...grr. And I placed the order months ago.

Weather is warming up! Supposed to be 41 here on Monday...maybe my birds will be able to ship!!!!
It is supposed to start on Friday and it looks like it will be in the mid to upper 30's for at least a week! Maybe spring is knocking on the door. I have a feeling old man winter isn't going to let go to easy. I'm sure that we'll get some more cold weather, but at least for now it looks like it will be nice for a little while!

I can't wait to see them!

Rancher have you tried to make an incubator? You seem quite handy? I made ours in a few hours from things I had in the garage and a cooler my boy found in the creek. It held great temps and got a great hatch. 8 of 9 on our first try. The average temp in the house was 62 deg and it held 99-100 with a 75w bulb. an old puter fan and the h2o water thermostat.

If I thought I'd be having chickens longer I might give it a try. It's been so cold I get up some days and say this is nuts! I have a replacement heater and fan for this thing so I will change them out once this hatch is over.

2 chicks so far and 13 to go before I'm satisfied. I'm not overly picky I think to be happy with a 50% hatch am I ?

I do have an cooler near the garage that might work. No one has used it all year, so perhaps I should give it a try.

I really need some sun right about now. I take Vitamin D but it doesn't help.

I started some tomatoes and bought more seeds today to start. Boy seeds are expensive. They know darn well I won't use 25. I always plant more than one kind in case the blight hits. It increases my chance of a crop.

Took DW to the docs yesterday and she still isn't up to par. Weighs heavy on my mind.

I agree could really use sun as well, just started taking vit d 3000 iubs a day may have to up it to 4, but I have noticed a pretty big difference since I started taking it.

Man wish I knew you needed seeds, I have a bunch left over from our seed swap, some tomatoes, peppers, some beans, and TONS of flowers. That stands for anyone interested, if you would be able to contribute a few dollars for shipping I could send you some seed :)

Also rancher if you still need a incubator by the picnic I have an extra one I could give you, nothing special just an lg but it works, just let me know :)

I started my flower seeds a few weeks ago and it is go nice to se them starting to grow. I keep turning them and I'm getting a second little fan to help. I hope that they turn out good. I planted my tomato seeds not to long ago and I'm getting impatient for them to start sprouting. I planted 3 different kinds I 'm trying to decide where I'm going to plant them. I have a bigger garden this year so I do have room in there, but I have been thinking about putting them in the flower garden in the front of the house. It gets so much sun there. I planted one there last year and it did the best of all of them. So I may try to at least put a bunch there and then the rest I the garden. I've got to get the rest of my seeds soon.

Rancher I'll keep your wife in my prayers.

Any one else having trouble finding shavings in Oneida county? Seems they are using all the wood to make pellets.

Same here in Seneca... cat litter is even scarce!! no salt, no litter, no shavings, no wood pellets. I am so happy the last two days we have had huge flocks of geese coming home! its a good sign.
