Oh happy day....2 Sebastapol eggs and actually in the barn, not outside frozen into the snow! Thats 5 I'm putting into the incubator today...praying to the fertility gods.

Guess I need to start keeping my ducks in past 8am in the morning otherwise I'll be on an egg hunt every morning. I let them out this morning before I brought my son to school (7:30am), no eggs were in the coop. Well when I returned around 8 I noticed they were all laying down out front in my flower bed...which was new to me. I just got home from the restaurant and decided to check for eggs out front since there were none in the coop and they were laying there this morning for over an hour and there to my surprise was an egg in laying in the mulch!

Wonder how many others are laying around in the yard somewhere.

Remember my silkie problem buring the eggs LOL well now yours are laying in odd places tis the way of the world my girls fly over their fence all the time and I get eggs in the straw shed but the fall between the slots in the pallets not cracked but hard to get!

Well I'm going to have to keep an eye on my cuckoo maran. She had something hanging from rear end so I managed to net her and turned out to be a shell. I slowly pulled on it and I think I got just about all of it out. I hope if anything left in there doesn't cause a problem and she can pass it with her next egg. She had an egg on coop of floor today which she never does and her eggs have been kinda spotty with coloring being lighter so I guess egg has been in side for a bit and she's been passing eggs by it.

Got my sportsman and already starting my egg hatching figure I'm going to try and do about 30 chicks a weekend as long as I can keep buyers coming.

I let my chickens that I hatched for the nyd hatch along out with the other birds today and they seemed to get along ok but the younger ones ran and kept to themselves. Left both coop doors open so will see who sleeps where tonight, wife will have fun trying to count them all lol.

Good luck with the egg hatching. Sometimes I hate counting them I separate into color groups.


Not much going on here hopefully chickens will be done with molt soon I have two big egg orders to fill LOL of course as soon as I get customers they explode feathers everywhere LOL.

It feels like spring finally. I don't really know how to describe the change in the air when spring comes but it just felt like spring. I think even the animals agree since I've been seeing a ton of chipmunks and squirrels out the past two days. Hope the snow melts soon, because I'm sick of it!

Welcome! Not sure about your town specifically but there are quite a few in the Albany/Saratoga area.

Nope. She is really a little person in a fur coat and she is guarding them through the night. And she leaves when they have feathers and yet the light is still there at night. (When they have feathers they look like the chickens outdoors. The ones she ignores)

It was a beautiful day out today. Girls spent most of it outside doing a great job turning over the garden. I hooked up my outside sump pump to a garden hose to drain the water in the low areas so the ground can start drying out once all the snow melts. It's been running non stop since 130 & still going strong. Poor thing is going to be tired

Rancher do you use newspaper in your gardens? I've been saving them and cardboard for the garden. I also have been saving all my milk & OJ containers. You just cut the bottoms off them and put them over your plants?

I once found Norma Jean sleeping in the brooder. The poor terrified chicks all huddled at the other end. Yes they like the heat.
