NY chicken lover!!!!

With others getting appeals you stand a good chance of change i would think. Good luck with it. If you need help i'm sure people on here will help. Just try to not get pushed too far. O've seen some laws where coops have to be cleaned daily i think it was.

Thanks for the info and help

Np by the sounds of it your in a smaller town so hopefully its easy to get it changed. Get some silkies and then invite all the kids from town over so they all will want some. Using kids to get what you want sounds oh so evil but hey maybe it will help lol.

Okay---here they are! Babies!!!! Black sexlink roo. Roos are easily sexed by the white spot on its head. 3 Heritage rir chicks. Heritage rir chick. Notice the chipmunk striping. I have more pics on my page in case you wish to peruse them. I am one happy chicken mommy. Final count is not in yet as there are more hatching!
Yay! I miss having chicks, soon though
Yes, def plan on sharing :) a lot of what I hatch. The Orloff I'll share as well but after they have grown and I see what I have to work with, cept for a roo I promised out already :p and same here Gramma I don't plan on getting too attached to the ones that will be meat birds. I'm home all day, have lots of room. They all are going to have indoor coop in the Baxter building and outdoor fenced area to range. We are close to the woods and have too many predators on land and sky here to totally free range. I was hoping more of the LaBresse hatched but we got three. Hopefully we have one of each sex, 2 pullets and roo would be nice. One of the La Bresse is HUGE. We ended up with 9 silkies and the 3 La Bresse. My 7 turkeys all died before they made a internal pip for some reason. Really sad about that but I'll try again. I guess all in all this wasn't too bad for my first try hatching the chickens. 9 out of 15 silkies hatched and 3 out of 6 La Bresse. Could have been worse. Cleaning the hatcher really good and letting air dry good. The next chicks set to hatch on the 27-28 so I guess I should get them in the hatcher by Tuesday. These are the three LaBresse. So pretty and fluffy, the one is just huge, he was really crammed in the egg and did hatch right on time.. Aria here are the 9 silkies we ended up with. I'm not sure now I have any blues.. I think I have two types of white and the buffs. So glad to hear you are getting some eggs! these are the cutest little stinkers. And the giant LaBresse he is the hulk.

This one has also been named little jimmy but I think we are going to look for another name for him / her lol
Love all the chick pics!
well my little baby chick died today ..I dont think she knew how to feed herself or she had some birth defect . I thought she was better she was eating yesterday.. she lived a week .. I held her for a couple hours & petted her ...very little responce ..She just wanted to sleep . I had to go outside to take care of chicken s . When I came in she had passed .The other 5 seem fine ...
Sorry for your loss, it is always hard when that happens

I thought I had read something mentioning Fayette...but they came up on Craigslist so I figured I'd ask to make sure.

I'm looking for local Black Australorp and Buff Orpington.  Speckled Sussex, too.  I've had a few folks from here offer eggs, but it was a bit far.

Most on our NY thread seem to be to the east or north of me. Is Fayette near you? It took me well over an hour to get there. I have been looking for buffs for nearly 2 yr but don't find them near me. I have 1 hen so even if I could find a roo, I'd be happy. The people at the very end of my road have very washed out buffs for eating. Their flock keeps getting smaller and smaller. They do the same with ducks.

If you plan to appeal check to see what other rules other towns have for their residents. There is a forum on hear about chicken laws in the different states and then towns. If you would like a copy of our chicken laws I can send you the link. Being prepared I think would help in your request.

Changing ordinances ....

I am on my local planning commission - NY will be set up a little differently - but the process is the same - petition is good. BUT - just show up to a meeting with 3-4 or more people and TALK to your city council/select board whatever it is in your town. A cute little flyer with facts ....

WOW - they really have no spine - and all I have encountered give in to face to face pressure .... now - I do mean be nice - but the pressure of seeing faces there - telling them how great this is .... bug mosquito control, japanese beetles begone .... and yes, put the roos in there and then agree to take them out - also numbers - start with 10 and agree to 5 .....

You may not get any action at first - it can be a long process and all meetings have to be public and given a long lead in public warning date - ours is 45 days .... but just show up to every meeting - may be 3 of them - if you can't spare 3 hours for this - then shame on you.

Sometimes changes can be done just on that one ordinance - sometimes the whole zoning section must be updated - be nice, be THERE and you should take the day. It was people that created the changes - the ones that show up get heard.

I was told its cruel for me to eat my own chickens and that they won't eat an animal if they know its been killed.

This is why when folks feel bad about themselves and their issues, I just say everyone has issues.

I have a sweat shirt that has the saying on it. " EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM "

(notice I didn't say the sweatshirt says...............)

Keep those you want to work with and breed and get rid of the rest. If there is an egg coop only and you only want eggs keep the hens you want there even if not for breeding. Sorry not much help but all depends on the person and what they have planned to do.
I'm downsizing cuz I'm over run with eggs. 2 dz. plus a day some days. More than I can sell and eat.
