NY chicken lover!!!!

Our move from RI to NY was done in two stages...the first stage was from our home to a temporary rental home, where we stayed for 8 months. While there, we chose to live out of boxes and only unpacked the essentials. We had hoped to close on a home much sooner than 8 months but...

The whole ordeal was taxing enough. I'm set against moving ever again, if I can help it. Probably didn't help that we had a 5, 4, 3, and 2 yr old during the move. (Actually, they were 18 months and up for the first part of the move...then 5, 4, 3, and 2 during the last half of the move).

Ouch. Mine were 4 (almost 5), 8 and 10 at the time of our first move. They were able to help, just chose not to do so as a silent protest against the whole idea of moving out of state. We did discover the 8 year old had over 150 stuffed animals. Only 50 of them made the move. Somewhere there is a whole generation of parent hating me for giving their children a "free stuffed animal" at my yard sale. (especially those who stopped in more than once. LOL)

LOL!!!! Most of our Stuffies didn't make the move, either. Only certain ones.

I will say...I found the move strangely liberating. Packing up crap that we never used, giving it away, throwing out garbage, cleaning areas of the house that never got cleaned.

I gave away a whole classroom's worth of teaching materials to a first-year teacher on Freecycle. Felt good about that.

Still, though...it was exhausting. And we moved here in February of 2011, and it was SNOWY that winter. Then, the 2nd leg of the move...we had to return to RI and finish cleaning out our house (mostly hubby's garage)...anyways, that leg of the move was in 100 degree temps in the summer. It was miserable.

Hello all -- been away from the forum for a couple of months (oh those pesky work/life details that get in the way!). Sorry to hear about the recent losses, and hope everyone is otherwise doing well. We added this little bit of ridiculousness to the family last month - he's also keeping us busy and will further postpone any serious poultry breeding on my part. Someday....

Puppy is so cute.

I don't know how people do it.

Dogs, rabbits, goats, ducks AND chickens? I would be dead. I barely can take care of what I've got, without dealing with a Dog. My DD's cat is here while she's away and I hate sifting litter. But I do like the cat.
I have a husband 3 boys still home, 4 dogs, 2 cats, 21 turkeys, although 6 of them are broad breasted for the freezer, ducks, chickens, rabbits, geese are on the way, 4 pigs,2 cows, and I am trying to talk hubby into a goat.

Here's a chicken poop question........but not the usual kind about appearance and health!

I am wondering: does anyone else's dog(s) eat chicken poop? I like to let my hens free range at least a little while every other day or so. They love it. But they poop, of course. It's pretty nasty to see my younger dog go wild for the poop. Even if I reprimand her, she still eats it (or tries to). She is a very affectionate dog, always trying to lick us, and that's a bit of a turn off!!!!!!!

Between that and the close-call with a red-tail hawk last week, I am reconsidering the free ranging jaunts.

This is what I was told by my vet as to why dogs eat other animals poop the other animals do not completely digest all of their food so the dog smells the undigested food and thinks they are having a feast

haha! I have 5 dogs, 7 puppies(for sale), 30 chickens, a hedgehog, and a bearded dragon. Not to mention the 6 children! Of course I'm a little younger than you

Oh I forgot about the fish tank! I don't know how many are in there!
I had 6 kids at home at one time too. 2 are out completely on their own and one is just completing his 1st year of college at SUNY Plattsburgh so will be back home soon for the summer.

Oh, My dog follows the chickens around waiting for something to come out! Sometimes she nudges their back side to facilitate the process. I swear she thinks of them as pez dispensers for poop!

Yuppers my Lily loves to try and sneak in behind me to eat chicken poop. Goose & deer poop is her 2nd favorite. I'm just thankful she doesn't eat dog poop lol

OMG LOL I'll say it again, WHY do dogs have to be so gross!!! I think is he more attached to my dog if I never saw him go after the chicken poop! But now that I've seen him eat it I don't want him anywhere near my face!

Update on the little yellow chick I hatched from my BR cockerel and BR hen.

Turns out, both the hen and the cockerel are BRxWR cross! So the little chick is a white rock. SURPRISE!!!
