NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks, guys!

Another question...

Have any of you ever had a chick that seemed to be on death's door for days and then recovered?

One of the TSC Sebrights has been poorly for days. Wobbly when it stands, weak, sleeps most of the time. It's breathing heavily, and holding its wings out away from its body. Almost like its too hot, but every time I move it to the cooler side of the brood box, it wobbles itself back to the warm corner. It did have pasty butt, but that's cleared up and its pooping easily now (as evidenced this morning when it pooped on me). I've taken it out of the brood box twice, expecting it to take its last breaths, only to have it just keep on fighting! It cuddles up with me and just keeps on going.

This has been going on for three days, at least. I've given it a bit of yogurt, which it ate off of my finger. I've been feeding her water with a pipette, and she is eating chick feed when I put some on a flat dish in front of her.

I'm not expecting her to live, but can't seem to cull her. Any ideas?

And most important, is this something my other chicks could catch from her? Nobody else seems sick.
Sometimes chicks just fail to thrive. It could be genetic. If she's eating and drinking then she/he may be fine. I'd just do the best I could. Just let her rest she might be.

My first batch of chicks I had two. I just put them in a dark box with food and water for a couple of days. As long as they're warm of course. It could just be stress.

I hope it gets better! I am reading all of these posts eagerly (we get our first batch of chicks in June).. I hope it gets more strength and does OK!

Today's weather was frustrating. It would rain, then stop and get sunny. We'd go out and start working then it would start to rain again, but through the off and on rain I managed to get a section of the chicken run fenced off and got it seeded. The girls were super mad and pacing the fence cause I wouldn't let them in. They all got mad when I covered the grass seed with the straw. I kept telling them that if I let them in that they would eat all my grass seed and they wouldn't have any left to grow the grass. I'm sure that they didn't understand. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll start to see green instead of just mud in the run. I don't know how long that the grass will last, hopefully at least a little while. This time last year the run was all grass. If this small section turns out growing good then I'll do the whole run in bigger sections.

And today I saw Woody, my frizzle rooster on my frizzle hen. At least I know that he is doing his job with one hen, to bad it isn't with the one that I want. LOL

Added two more silkies tonight from the neighbor. He's going to take some of our extra silver sebrights, once we can tell pullet from cockerel. One of the silkies has an odd head jerk thing, too...like the sebrights had when they first arrived (but have since gotten over).

Maybe its just stress related?

Anyways, my chicken math is horrible, lol. I'm up to two dozen chicks in the brood box, plus the five outside. I can really only overwinter 10 full-size birds, plus a few bantams.

Look what came in today
