Got home safe and sound with my 2 new babies! (sorry rancher) I'm so in love with them. I know that I say it every time I get something new, but I really mean it this time! I put them in together and crossed my fingers. They hit it off right away...Matter a fact I went out to check on them after a little while and my big white girl had my little gray one tucked under her. I went to go get my camera and they had moved of course. Now just have to figure out some names.

Ever here the expression Have to get you ducks in a row...They lay like this all the time

Oh and we have another chicken lover in the family!

Great day at the picnic yesterday. Got my free LG incubator from Marq. Hubby is going to try installing a fan in it, he already talked to Travis on how.
I see all this chatter on FB about the Salmonella outbreak at Mt Healthy, and they are the ones that supply most all TSC, my local one included. What is everyone's thoughts on this? I got 12 chicks from them in March and really don't want to kill my babies. We sell eggs. Always wash our hands after handling birds or collecting eggs, although little girl usually ends up with fingers in her mouth before that ( trying to break that habit still). It seems the 2 options are to quarantine my flock forever and assume they are all infected or cull the chicks.

Really? I had no idea this was the two options! You mean I can't just keep my TSC chicks and continue on like before? My birds seem healthy (I realize that doesn't mean anything), but as long as folks always use general hygiene habits with chickens, which should always be the case, isn't it fine?

Morning all! Had a wonderful time yesterday and was beat when I got home. Went to bed early. Fished out the last seven girls to go to my friends house this morning. They werent happy but are going to a nice home. Bill was incarcerated by dh last night. He will be processed this morning (soon). The terrorists girls arent quite sure what to make of him being locked up. Certainly is quieter around here. I should have chicks hatching soon in the bator. Hoping for a decent hatch of blues.

Rancher--Hope dw is feeling better and that the visit on monday to the doctor is good. Missed you but we all understand and wish you well.

Lynzi--cant beat broodies to do the job for you!

Almost forgot--Looked in on Eowyn this morning and she has all her eggs and the eggs her daughter was sitting on under her. She is a great broody and hopefully I will have another good batch of chicks.

Time to Kill Bill vol 1. Later all. I will post pics of the picnic later after I get done running around.

I don't know if this helps but apple cider vinager ( with the mother) kills sallmonella .. Idk how to apply that to chickens but it's something you can look into. But you can soak fruit with salmonella and ecoli on it in a solution of vinager and water ( I forget the ratio) and it cleans them. I just read an article ...
