NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning All, woke up to my last little Silkie egg hatched. An all white one...weird considering the parents are lavender...anyway. Just got done saving it because it got kicked out from under mama and was just laying there cold barely breathing! Still wasn't even completely dry yet from hatching. So I raced it inside took the blow dryer to it and it's doing much better now. All dried out and fluffy and chirping! I have it under a heat lamp for now until it gets moving around on its own enough to fight for a spot under mama when I put it back with the others. Here's the last of the hatch...

Nice save.

ace your BLRW is doing good. My roo loves her and laid down the law with the other hens and they welcomed her in. Some reluctantly lol. This picture is this morning as I was opening the coop.

With all this talk on salmonella and since I bought 6 (2different times) (12 total), I called Mt Healthy to see if my Tractor Supply was included with the salmonella. After 10 min a girl comes on that doesn't know much about anything. Yes, our TS was one of the stores that received some of the infected birds. Not all were infected. I could tell that she was reading from a script. Every time I would ask another question she would respond with "as long as you take the appropriate measures to wash your hands....." She then suggested that I call my TS store who would probably have more details. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So I did. The manager tried to be so helpful and gave me details as much as he could. The 6 NY'er's that we're documented ill in NY we're not from here and he also said that not all chicks were infected. So, I believe that I will take poop samples to my vet and hopefully, he can help me and with good news. I'm not a dramatic person but I do have 2-3 yr and a 6 yr old and I have caught them kissing a chick before. Thankfully, none of us have gotten sick. Life is full of drama, I just try to use some common sense. I know they don't have to look sick but my birds are beautiful and are thriving great.

rancher, I hope you got some better news today.

I brought home a splash hen from Henny that is this same color. It's possible it could be a splash. I thought in order to get white chicks you need and white x white pairing.

I have had 2 white chicks from not white silkies so it must be possible but you are right could be splash and I have had one who looked like that end up a paint so will be nice to see what it ends up being

We are planning on culling our rooster (and adding him to our freezer, unless somebody from here wants him). Is it better to wait until AFTER I introduce the chicks into the flock, or does it make any difference?
