NY chicken lover!!!!

i have a question ..i have a shed i built 2 coops in ..actully 3 coops but am going to connect them all into one big coop once the new birds are big enough ..i moved my old flock to a new side and the new birds to the old birds coop right next to each other ..the old birds are not very happy about it and they are yapping up a storm ..i did notice after a few hrs they settled down yesterday ..

i split the run in half so to slowly intergrade the 2 flocks as the little ones[10 weeks old] get big enough..i built a new nesting table ..i call it a table because i havent inclosed it yet ..i am woundering if i shouldnt have left my older girls in their old area and put the new birds in the new area..the older girls are pacing the fence and acting like they want at the old nesting boxs..so should i switch them back or not ..its only been one day ..i did this the way i did because theres more 18 new birds and only 4 old birds and this gave the new birds more room ..but like i said the old girls are not happy ..i only found one egg this morning ..and i see the older girls get up in the nesting table but then just squak and jump back down ..

any help or opinions would be great ..

thanks in advance .

oh and happy fathers day to all you dads ..

I like rabbits - but I don't miss them in my yard! They play havoc with some of my veggies - little beasties...the Beagles were in full flight after a big fat bunny yesterday - they chase but seldom catch. I look upon the rabbits as 'Beagle fitness trainers'

You have much worry and sadness in your life currently - I hope all things work out to the best for ya Rancher

I looked at the rabbits as a sign there were not other more veracious things about. Like Foxes. With no rabbits and having had a fox attack, it upsets me, there are no rabbits. My garden is surrounded with fencing. I miss the little bunnies in the spring.

Pictures of the babies I hatched from Chickenstock:

They weren't too thrilled with the flash from the camera. I'm happy with 22/34. Every one was fertile and started to develop. Had a few early quitters, some late quitters, one died during hatch and one was so deformed I had to cull. A pretty good hatch considering the power outage and high humidity during the incubation. Had just one sticky chick that got a total immersion bath so it wouldn't stick to the wire and everyone else did well, even the couple I had to help a little bit.

Morning all. I cleaned out coops and played musical chickens this weekend. Found nasty crept crawlies and eggs on a bunch of them so they all got treated. Some of them are the kiddos 4H show birds. Any suggestions on non chemical solutions to the crawlies, I'd like to stay away from DE if possible. I'm also looking for tips on regrowing the feathers I plucked that we're covered in eggs. Our fair is in 6 weeks

We have lots of rabbits right now which are driving m dogs crazy, but I agree that they are a good sign. Lots of rabbits = no foxes. I was worried that we would have the foxes back this year. When we had the foxes we never saw any rabbits, now we have lots of bunnies and no signs of the foxes.

I make sure mine always have a good dust bath. I give them a mix of wood ash, DE and some play sand for good measure. The LOVE it and and (knock on wood) no signs of any of the little pests.

kinmera, i read i beleave on here bathing them in dandruf shampoo or blue dawn will kill mites and bugs on them ..i no dandruf shampoo has parithium zinc [sorry about the spelling]

Hmm wonder if I can barter with the Amish for wood ash
I did some research on herbs to help decrease crawlies. So now I have an herb garden!

. I wish that I could bounce more ideas off him, but he just really doesn't care. I love him to death but there are days that i want to just smack him.

A Loooong time ago my sister in law gave my brother a "thinking of you" card that said "I love you more today than yesterday" and you opened it up and inside it said "cuz yesterday you really ****** me off". LOL

She saves it somewhere and brings it out to hand to him every once in a while. Kinda smooths out the rough edges of the marriage.

Blue Dawn dish soap is what I have used on my garden plants for billions of years...mixed with water and sprayed on, of course. So I would imagine it would kill bugs on birds too. It does a wonderful job in the garden on soft bodied insects.

That's probably all the spilled grain and water rotting too. My dad and brother got some of the bins/augurs out of there, think there was a pit underneath.
And in Murphy's Law of chickens and incubators, I have a hen going broody. Had to pull her out of the metal nest boxes in the barn the past 3 nights to go in the coop and has a naked belly. Wish she would set in the coop nest, at least that is safe and closed up at night. Probably too soon to give her chicks from the incubator. It is Tab and Travis' Maran.

Give her some eggs from the 'bator? Maybe 2. Chickens can't count....then you can stuff all the chicks under her when they hatch and you won't have brooder dust all over the place.
