Morning all. Just finished processing 5 roosters by myselft. Went well. Only cut my finger once. I will weigh the meat before I pack it in the jars. Though I would drop in and see what everyone was up to for the moment. Certainly quieted down the coop some. I left two as it was getting too hot and I am working alone and have to get the meat cooled quick. I will do them later this week. Okay, time to fire up the canner and get the jars packed. Back later.
We're used to those taxes being from CT originally! LOL I'll never forget the first time I leased my own car - those taxes are even higher than if you finance! Ugh, I was so happy to be done with those when we moved to NY, (one of the reasons we both bought higher end model cars). If we go back to living in CT, my taxes on my vehicle next year will be close to $2K I'm sure. I'm really loving these two houses we found in the upper eastern corner of CT in Woodstock and Putnam so we'll see. I'm waiting for the realtors to get back to me. Schools are awesome in Woodstock and it has similar "country-like" settings like it does here where we are now.Congrats to your husband, Lynzi. He sure found his place quickly! It sounds like you will have new opportunities too if you buy a place. Living in CT may not be a bad idea, Taxachusetts has many sneaky little taxes, we were shocked to get an annual tax on our car! In the mid 70s it was $62 per 1000$ you car was worth. It makes you want to drive a real clunker . Of course, what matters is to find the home that will suit all of you, schools, commute, land, town, access to family....this thread will be here just as it always has, and there will be the MA thread, and you will be closer to the Albany area peeps...
When you can, let us know which restaurant he works for so if we want a great meal we can support him!
We will want to hear your adventures.
Quote: How about "how to never have a rooster attack you"?
In all my years of raising chickens, I've never had a roo that I've raised come at me. Sure, maybe one or 2 have given me the eye, but that is as far as it goes. And this is why.....I never, I mean never pick up or cuddle with a cockerel, Unless I have to for a medical reason or for safety's sake. Theirs not mine.
I always am the boss. From day one, as soon as I see that there is a cockerel I am keeping, I let it know I am the boss. If I see it looking at me oddly, or come at me a little, I start to go after it. Usually its just walking towards it & yelling. They soon learn not to even think about attacking me.
I've had Silkie roos I bought from other people, almost always be attackers. I don't know what it is about them. Napolean complex...dunno.
Anyway, it works for me. I prefer to not have a situation happen rather than have to fix it.
BTW, I do walk into my pens and all my roosters, will walk up to me, around my feet, etc. They are not really afraid of me, they just respect me. Well, that is unless I have my big net in my hands, then they all run like crazy! LOL![]()
A GOOD Point ...Dont let them start ...but if they have ....just thought I would share ....Im saving both of these to remember down the road ..
How old is the hen?I have a hen who is losing her neck feathers. Any ideas and suggestions?
