NY chicken lover!!!!

I'm not sure.. I got an email that they were shipped from hatchery yesterday @ 8am... Then to a sorting facility in Mansfield OH at 7:30pm last night...
Then to a sorting facility in Cleveland this morning then it just said departed in transit estimated delivery Wednesday. I hope they are OK!

If they were shipped from the hatchery yesterday you will see them either Wednesday or Thursday the hatcheries mainly ship priority mail now.

Evening Everyone,
Back home again for the last time. It's so sad to come back here to no chickens or ducks or chicks or eggs in the incubator even! What's even more sad is I found out after talking with the "board of directors" of this lake community yesterday that poultry (or animals other than household pets) are strictly prohibited from being raised/kept on any property of this lake community.

I kind of figured that would be the case since I found out those are the same rules of the other lake that runs into this one. The guys said to me "So unless you are planning on keeping them in your house..." I was like NOPE! No Way! No How!

So on to Plan B, I'm wondering if I could keep them at my mom's for the time being. She's an hour away from this new house but the only problem with that is, I KNOW there are no roosters allowed in her town. I just wish I knew people who lived in or around Woodstock, CT that maybe would help me out and allow me to keep my small flock with them until we bought a property of our own. Woodstock is one of the largest agricultural parts of CT and it's shame of all places we've found to live we found we love but is one of very few that won't allow poultry. But what am I to do? Tell my husband, no I don't want to live in the nicest house we've found because I can't have my chickens here? I can already see where that convo would head! LOL
So sorry. Maybe you could post on the CT thread to find out who is around your Mom.

Keep in mind that it also depends on what time of day the package is picked up. If it's picked up in the afternoon it's not moving til the next morning. I used to work for the PO.

Packages shipped to NY have to come through Rochester now. Coming from where ever it's stopping in Rochester.

Packages from the EAST go to Rochester and boomerang back to the East.

Even if I send a Priority envelope to someone in the same zip? It's going to Rochester first and then coming back to my zip. Even if that someone lives next door.

The PO's efforts to save money have delayed the mail.

One time I got a call at the main hub here that my chicks were in and if I wanted them that evening I'd have to go and pick them up there. Otherwise they would not be delivered til the next day. Being they were already a day late I went and got them with only one doa. I knew where to go since I'd worked there.

There is no good reason to deliver dead chicks, unless you think saving money is a good reason.

Please buy local. Or at least combine an order with someone else to order enough chicks to improve their odds of survival.

Thanks for the information everyone. All I can do is wait and pray that they all are safe and healthy! I ordered 19 so hopefully they are thriving!

I've placed a couple of orders for chicks/ducks and I've never gotten them earlier than Wednesday if shipped on a Monday. You should be receiving a call tomorrow morning.

Even Chickens that I've ordered from other breeders have never gotten here that quickly. If they are shipped on a Monday they usually arrive on Wednesday.

Morning all. So sorry to hear that you cant have chickens lynzi. That stinks. Maybe your mom knows someone who would be willing to take yours until you find property. Kimmerjo, dont worry. They should be fine when you get them. The hardest part is waiting. I would come to see Lynzi off but I will be in Georgia visiting my daughters and looking at different areas for possible move locations. We are hedging our bets and looking because the company dh works for is slowly dying. When he retires or gets laid off, we are out of NY. Now dont get me wrong, NY is our home but things here are just going from bad to worse, between the taxes and rediculous laws and citiots running everything now. No regard from the legislatures for anyone other than city folks or those with money. Anyways, I wish you well Lynzi and will keep seeing you on the NY thread I hope. I dont think you are far from me as connecticut is just over the river from me.

Spent the day cleaning on monday and yesterday I put up the plastic lattice pieces I got from my mom. Set up two pieces on fenceposts behind my tomato plant and used them to support the plants. Put another small piece on the inside of the run in front of where the other two are and then used the long two pieces on the other two sides of the run. Looks nice. Love zipties. Makes it go quick. The girls are not happy they cant reach through the fence any more and eat my plants. Rotten hens. I think the plants will come back some. Clyde is crowing now. Hopefully he will get a real crow as this one sounds funny. He is really starting to develop now. His coloring and his tail are coming in nicely and he is getting bigger. Still has to fill out yet. My one rir pullet has roachback and I have been advised to cull her as it becomes painful as they get older. I am reluctant as I would like to use her for eggs. Anyone here have any experience with this condition? My other pullets look fine and there are really only two who I will hatch any eggs from. I am still sorting out the younger rir. Hope to get to them tomorrow.

I bought a pressure cooker and used it last night to cook one of the roos I had processed last week. Ohhh man, was he tasty! From raw to falling off the bone tender finger licking tasty in 20 minutes! I think I have found my new best cooking friend. Next will be venison pot roast. I will let you know how that comes out.

Loving this cooler weather. Sleeping with the windows open is the best.

Off to the pharm today. Have a good day everyone.

Considering I just canned up 16 pints of Blueberry Pie Filling and had 2 non-sealers, I think you guys will be my guinea pigs for the Blueberry Pie :D Don't worry, I refrigerated the non-sealed jars. And maybe some Zucchini Bread w/ Chocolate Chips.

Maybe you can try one of those Crow No More collars or whatever they are on your Roo? If he doesn't crow, no one will know he is there. I have never tried them, but think of them similar to cribbing collars on horses. Restricts muscles to prevent an unwanted and potentially dangerous habit. Dangerous for horses since it can cause health problems, dangerous for roosters because the other option is the stock pot.
