How old Sweatpea? Looks like a hen to me. I don't see any streamers. The crest looks nice and round. I have hens with a small comb like that one. You wanna keep an eye on the wattles now that the comb is that size. If they get bigger and more mulberry in color it's a roo. But so far to me it looks like a hen. Age would help though too.

Rancher is that large for a hen? Like I said before this is my first broody hen and hatch which she did all on her own and is nothing short of a great mama. We saw her catch a spider and give it to her babies. So now we have broody hen number two, we had to put a cup over her head to to get the eggs away from her LOL and guess what she is an Amber Sex Link as well. She gets no eggs right now unless she is super persistant. We will see.

It was really hot a bit too hot to work with the dogs much so they had a break today. We cleaned up the coops and didn't have much time left so no skate today. But there is always time for squats, lunges, sit ups. planks, and push ups!!!

we introduced my other chicks well now chickens to the flock they did fine.

Duckers are great getting big.

IMO, heck yeah! Course most of my hens only get a few eggs. This year most have been staggered hatches. If I put them in seclusion where other hens can't get to them they do better.

Boy or girl? The neighbor gave him to me and said he's a cockerel. He's basing that on comb size. But this bird lacks the streamers that silkie males tend to have. He carries himself more like a hen. And you can't really base sex on comb size, can you?

ETA: I'm really not sure how old this bird is. I *think* he was hatched this spring. But I'll have to ask the neighbor.

I went out to let my chickens out this morning. One of the 2 younger roos were trying to crow! I love the awkward voice cracking crows! If I didn't have to leave for work I would have stayed to listen!

I went out to let my chickens out this morning. One of the 2 younger roos were trying to crow! I love the awkward voice cracking crows! If I didn't have to leave for work I would have stayed to listen!

I have a blue silkie cockerel who's just starting to crow and he about falls over ever time he does it. I was watching him the other morning and couldn't help but burst out laughing at him. Poor thing.

I have a BCM cockerel who started crowing quite some time ago, but it took a long time for his voice to come in properly. For the longest time, he sounded like a squeaky toy clown car. Ha haha hahaaaaaaaa.

What's to be fed up about?

I figured he's started a blog and there is money in having a blog if you can get sponsors. AND develop a following. No one follows me. Well no one but my chickens and they don't spend money, though my wallet has been missing for a while.

I could never leave BYC. I get a sick satisfaction from annoying you people.

Maybe next year I can get a day pass and make the picnic.
