That's was the first place my chickens ALWAYS ran and checked out in the morning-right under the bird feeder. They'd get everything dropped in the grass and then move up to the porch and pick up everything there. Miss that... :-(

We are looking into doing the poultry net fencing next year even though we have quite a bit of land. It's not a neighbor thing or tem staying around thing, it's the layers, a lot of the time we can't find out we're they are going. So our plan this year coming up is to move them around the yard with a laying house fenced in by electric poultry net. We currently keep most of our animals behind temp fence right now.Wow!! That is quite the update! I'm glad you found where they're coming from, but it stinks to be in that situation! People like that give Backyard Chicken owners a bad reputation!!! I'm telling ya, this PoultryNet electric fencing is the best thing since sliced bread for us suburban folk with an acre or two...gives almost all the benefits of free range without the huge mess, threat to the chickens, and annoyance to neighbors! Just wish it had been a smidge cheaper![]()
Well lets hope we can make it next year. Those who might be selling might want to give us a head up.Tab usually hosts a get together each year where all of us from this thread go and have a meet up. I went last year and it was awesome! There's usually a raffle to help with the costs of hosting, lots of presales so you can ask people to bring what you want from them, and then a lot of people bring extras too so you can do a little extra shopping if you want.
welcome ...are your chickens mostly production birds or is it a mixed flock..must be a pretty busy day around your place ..lol..Hi I am not sure if this is the closest thread to me but i live about an hour north of watertown in gouverneur area. I have a farm where we run about 100 chickens, 100 quail, 30 geese, 30 ducks, and a whole bunch of others things, goats, horses, pigs, sheep, etc...
Very nice. The door width is important for bringing stuff in and out. My wagon just fits with a bale of hay or straw. Might have made it bigger for the wheel barrow though. One inch square wire sandwiched between 1x4. 30" inches wide as that lets the wheelbarrow and muck bucket fit through easily. 6 foot tall because that is the height of the runs and pens. Framed the whole thing with 1/2 inch space all around, and then put strips on the inside as a doorstop just like you would find with your house doors.
Above shows how you alternate the wood pieces to get the sandwich effect. Put in a few staples to hold the wire in place and then screw together. I added a solid panel so I could close out the cold in the winter or when it is raining hard. This is a small dick house and it has worked out nicely. There is an added layer of hardware cloth so it is safe to leave open at night for more air in the summer. Below you can see a pen door and a coop door made the same way.
I use stall door latches with carabiner clips to lock them shut and that has prevented any breakins by predators. Glad I did it because I discovered a raccoon wandering around down there one night!

Get them in a corner. I usually wait til night time.Good luck with the fishing net! I used it once - took the hens about 10 seconds to figure out what it was for and then they became impossible to catch. Chicken wrangling is not for sissies! My best suggestion is to continue with feeding them for now and see if you can gradually get near to them - or perhaps you could put some feed into a large dog crate type container and wait......................![]()

I get the same thing here. Some folks might give me a few bucks out of pity for our situation. Some folks will just take anything for free.I usually see laying hens and pullets $10 each on Craigslist and its free to post. I made the mistake of advertising a bunch of ducklings and their mamma for free once, withen a couple hours I had tons of calls and they were gone.
