NY chicken lover!!!!

i saw one once in watertown i was like i wanna go and get some chicks ^.^ but i didn't say anything and we don't have a coop yet
Cute !
1000
Little chickies have to be inside now anyway ..in a brooder ..We didnt have a coop at 1st either .
.they lived in the library in a big box till it got warmer out & we built a coop ..
these were our 1st 6 chickens ...we still have 3 of them on April 15 they will be 3 years old

They thought our house was their house ...coz it was for a while .
we let them outside for a little when they were little .
We put them in the cage & on the cart ..and carted them out

they did gardening with me ...the pots have weeded out grass ..they loved to take it out of the containers & eat it ..
Even though there was tons of it everywhere...

Oh dear :( , so sad to hear you lost so many birds. At least your neighbor did the right thing so it won't happen again. I do have several year old ducks I would sell, and some of the hens have started laying. There is a trio of pekins that are siblings to the two you got at last year's chickenstock, some rouen, swedish, and mixes. Also have extra muscovies, and a small flock of hatchery LF cochins from last year's chicks.

Horsekeeper can you PM me with some prices
So sorry to hear that Nutty! I lost several birds to a couple of dogs from the next road over this winter, and have yet to be compensated. I lost my broodies for my Pekins, and had to replace them with younger hens that probably won't be laying until later this year. I will have Pekins, Muscovies, and Khaki Campbells later in the season (the Khakis just stopped laying because of the cold) but I should have eggs by the time Chickenstock rolls around if you would like me to bring you some to help rebuild!

Lady Hawke I would love some eggs, This is just completely devastating.
Sorry to hear about the devastation.........

it must be heartbreaking to lose so many.

Thank You and it really is heartbreaking
I can assume the killed the Blue Swedish Ducks and your Columbian Rocks?

This is horrible. I would have hatching eggs but have someone else I've got to take care of first. I've posted some EE chicks on CL. And I have eggs in the incubator. Due 3/18 hopefully I'll have a good a hatch as last. 50% but I can deal with it. I'm hoping the C. Rocks will hatch. Haven't candled yet though.
Rancher you can assume right I have 1 blue Swedish left

Nutty---I'm sorry! My stomach just rolled over and I feel queasy! What birds did survive?
Tab not much actually one of the Roosters in sick bay died today the other is hanging in there but I am thinking it probably won't make it.

Oh my gosh Nutty I'm so sorry, that's terrible. Of course you can have as many of the packing peanuts as you would like. I'm pretty sure I have at least ten so just let me know how many you want.
Pyxis I will be grateful with any number.

I don't make pets out of my chickens, but I'm pretty attached. If someone's dog killed mine, I don't know what amount of $ could replace them. Time is worth more than $.
Sorry to hear about you loss.
Exactly cause a lot of them has just started laying not to long ago so yes lots of money lost and I also get pretty attached to my chickens .

Nutty I was wondering if King or any of the Orp ladies made it. Makes me want to cry thinking about it.

nutty so sorry to hear of your lost..and it being dogs makes me real upset ..because it could have been avoided in the first place ..sometimes it seem like it doesn't matter how much we have invested in time and money ..its the fact we lose a part of ourselves ..blood ,sweat and tears ..again sorry to hear ..

Any particular breed? Everyone should be laying again by the time chickenstock rolls around, so if you'd like, I can just collect and hold whatever is being laid for a week beforehand, which should give you a nice assortment. I have totally been there - to watch all your work and your future plans disappear in an instant is indescribably heartbreaking. I am happy to help out in any way I can!
