NY chicken lover!!!!

Pyxis - my truck is fixed - so I can come over with some hay and get my Buckeye chicks whenever they pip !!!!

Hit me up with a status -  I know two of us who want to know the final count !   :D

I'll candle tonight and let you know how many are still good! The cracked egg quit, and so did my cracked legbar egg :( All others are looking good though.

Hey do you guys think it would be ok to put chicks in with a full grown bantam silver sebright hen? Our coop is divided into two...one side is the current residence for the bantams but I intend to use it as a grow out pen when the chicks are feathered out enough to be outside overnight.

I'm going to put the silkie roosters in with the full size birds (unless anybody thinks THAT'S a bad idea), but I don't want to put the little bantam sebright in the full size pen. My full size BCM cock will likely try mating with her and I just can't see that ending well. Last time she flew over the fence into the full size pen, a group of cockerels ganged up on her and nearly crushed her to death.

The chicks are already almost as big as she is (most of them). She wouldn't hurt them, would she? Or would a full grown hen be territorial towards the chicks?

I would try the hen with the babies ...with supervision ...then you can she what she does & if need be separate her from them
silkie roosters in with the full size birds - how do all the roo's get along ? ..
Bantam - only 2 roos & a hen ?
Could you divide the grow out pen ?

Just candled, and so far nine are still trucking along. A few didn't start, and there were a couple quitters, but nine are doing well.

The silkie roos? How do they get along? Terrible! LOL! There's three of them and they fight and fight. They look like jumping tribbles! It's actually quite hilarious. It wouldn't be, if they were causing any damage to one another but...so far they haven't. I think its because they are so fluffy. I can't help but laugh at them...trying to be so fierce but being so fluffy.

When I free range the entire flock (full size and bantams), the BCM roo does not bother the silkie roos at all. Occasionally, one of the silkie roos will make a pass at a full size hen but...that doesn't usually go anywhere. In fact, last time I saw, the hen rolled him right on over and gave him a good peck.

Unfortunately, I can't divide the grow out pen any further than it is. Not yet anyways.
