NY chicken lover!!!!

You asked about the wild broody babies ?
Well my wild bunch ( 7 weeks ) are now Motherless - Mama quit the job ..
She taught them what they need to know ..to survive
Anyways - when they are roosting at night I go in & talk to them & pet them ..
the wildest are the boys.. they dont like to be touched at all ..
Pullets look at me & listen ...they are getting a little tamer .

Yah, let's see if Gimpy will step up. :) He's from a last fall hatch and is a bit of a late bloomer. One of his toes looks like a stub so he kinda walks like he's constipated. :p Thanks for all the offers of free roos! I'll just hope one of the babies can step up OR that Subby (my name for the gimpy roo) can do it. My older EE (he's about 4 or 5) isn't too useful. :)

I have to work today so I am keeping them all locked up. They're not going to be happy. :(

An old Gomez pic.. He's ugly but he did his job. :)

Morning all. While locking up last night I looked in Legolas coop and had to laugh. 4 silkie hens, 3 chicks and 4 eggs all crammed into one nest box. Legolas? Enjoying the empty nextbox and surrounding space! Smart boy. Still no new babies yet. Have to candle tonight. Might be a lost cause.

Lisa...not sure where you are at but your boys are cute. You might be able to find some girls around. I don't have any right now and I am not sure yet what I have in my juveniles. I have learned not to sell them till I can sec them as silkies can't be sexed until almost grown. I have a knack for hatching boys too. You can raise those boys together and even have girls in with them if they are bonded. I hope you find some girls for them.

Delivering eggs today. Have a good one.

Morning all,
Busy day today, if I get all done I want to.

Sorry about bird losses.

Have enough broodies just hope they all hatch out something. Finding some broken eggs in the nest and it's a pain to deal with. Added more nest boxes to deter any hens from stepping in to add eggs.

Here is the fabric chosen for aprons. Each will have a matching ribbon for ties. I prefer heavier fabrics than just a Calico muslin type. Heavier protects my delicate body better when the jam is popping.

A messy kitchen is the sign of a good cook.

Sadly my only two silkies are turning out to be roos. I'm always lm always leary of buying off of craigslist...and I don't want to buy a,lot from a hatchery... :( I was really hoping I would get one girl and one boy silkie.

Thanks Gramma. I will try that.
It's funny how some broody hens will stay w their chicks until they're practically adults while other hens seem to drop their chicks & run as soon as they can.

Featherz, so sorry about Gomez :hugs

Well now I've waffled again and decided I'm going to keep Pretty Boy. He's behaving so well, even with the hens, which I have never seen with a young cockerel before. He gives them food, dances for them, and keeps an eye out for danger. The hens seem to like him and I saw him mate with a hen for the first time today and he was quick - on and off - so he's easy on the girls that way too. So now I have to pick someone else to find a home for, lol. I'm thinking my naked neck frizzle cockerel since I will have frizzle hens once Green's chicks grow up and two frizzles should never mate.

So, Featherz, if you want a nice naked neck olive egger cockerel, I've got one you could have :p

Do you all remember when we used to do photo Friday in here? I think we should bring it back!

Here's Pretty Boy. Anyone have any idea what the heck type of comb he has? Some sort of weird rose comb?

And of course my lovely assistant had to help with the picture taking by chewing on my camera strap.

But she did let me get a picture of her pretty eye.

Looks like a magnificent rose comb to me! Glad you have such a helpful assistant!
