NY chicken lover!!!!

Thank you ladies for the great advice.
Once I figure it out, I will update you. That will have to be today, since my roosters are showing dominance toward my hens.
My other problem is none of them will roost. I was putting them on their roost every night until I gave up, it was hit or miss, mostly miss. They prefer to huddle. Any advice on that?

My silkies don't roost :) It's normal of the breed. They just seem to prefer to sleep in a huddle on the floor.

Good to know, wish mine would sleep in a huddle INSIDE the coop...

Luckily mine sleep in the coop. It's actually pretty cute the way the pair I got from Pharm is so attached. They go into the coop and sleep together in a cat litter pan lined with hay that I put out for them. The other silkies huddle together nearby.

Speaking of Pharm, has anyone seen her around here lately? I don't think I've seen her post in a while. Hope all is well.

...LOL...my silkies are wacked too! Some are in an A-frame. They sleep in a huddle in the open area instead of their coop area. Rain, snow, sleet, shine! I figure they will get cold eventually and go inside the coop area. They remind me of the 80's hair bands when it rains!

The other crew has a house with two roosting bars inside a 10 x 20 coop. They roost. But, they are booted because my silkie gal has 3 babies and claimed the house/coop.

I wish I knew that before I had the hubs build a roost towards the bottom of the coop for them. Lol. My "training period" was short lived. No wonder they were heckling me every night.

Lol, I didn't know it was normal behavior. The silkie rooster is the 'alpha' male even though the younger langshan and white giant I haven't culled yet are twice his size. I would have thought he would be on top roost not huddled with his kind outside.
I forgot to toss them in one night, they are white. Had a bad rainstorm, they looked like dirty mops in the morning.

I just have Silkies....and they huddle together. Love them.
Rancher told us they are NOT chickens they are Aliens.
Well We love Silkies.

We have had no problems with them. And I read where other
Breeds do have problems. I Love Silkies and I think it is easier to have
just one breed. We have a small Coop. Aria

We've put a lock on the gate, and we're looking to put a lock on the coop as well. We'll be sticking up a big ol' "NO TRESPASSING" sign as well.Good

Hate to scare innocent people away from watching and learning about chickens, but the last person we thought was "learning" about chickens has ruined it for everyone else.
NO ONE should come in your yard to look at / learn about chickens without your permission .
He could be a sex offender or at the least he is a pervert ..
BESTIALITY IS ILlegal in new york
New York 1613 (De facto)
1665 (De jure)[81] § 130.20 Sexual misconduct
A person is guilty of sexual misconduct when:
3. He or she engages in sexual conduct with an animal or a dead human body.[82] Maximum of 10 years in prison and $1,000 fine[83][84]
He is Trespassing .Have you called the cops on him ?

Put up one of those signs that say no Trespassing with a Gun on it ...you dont actually have to have a gun ...
The sign is a threat

If you are allergic to dogs - you are probably allergic to their dander ..Some dogs have low dander .
It probably wouldnt bother you if it was a outside dog ...penned outside
