NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone listening to a scanner tonight? I turned on the online ones on Broadcastify, was a accident up the road.
The dispatcher said there was a sighting of a 'unidentified flying object' in the sky entering NY airspace and they were keeping a eye on it, I think I jumped a little Lol. Being drove by a heavy set man dressed in red and has a beard. 7yr old overhears it and yelled at the laptop "It's Santa Clause you dumb dumb!" Lol.

Hey all, so, my flock is amazing... got in a tiff with Lord Sterling... I think he tried to make a small power play... I got in his face, looked him in the eye and said, "watch it mister!" Then I carried him around for about five minutes, parading him in front of everyone. Teenagers!
Anyway, my smallest Delaware, Little Liberty still has no tail... she looks like a quail. She was my baby with horrible paste butt, do you think it damaged her ability to grow tail feathers?
Shouldnt have ...She could be at the bottom of the pecking order ...needs more protein for making feathers .
Check her crop to make sure she is getting enough food .

Merry Christmas Eve! Our big day is tomorrow with breakfast present opening and then a big meal in the early afternoon. Quick question though, is it normal for my four roosters to crow periodically all night long? It is dark from sunset to 3 or 3:30, but they crow. With the warm weather we have the windows open, so I noticed. Don't remember that happening before. I thought they were very quiet when it was dark so predators wouldn't find them.

Is there a outside light on that they can see ? My neighbor had a outside light on the front of his house that shined into the coop at night .
They would crow at night when that was on ..
I asked him could he please turn of the light ? it was waking my roosters up ...LOL

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone is having a great holiday. I got some really great gifts this year - a premier 1 heat plate, some new nesting boxes, a nice coat to use when out in the rain, and lots more. Can't wait to try the heat plate out!

Oh Gramma, I do have one neighbor who has those giant lights that turn on at dusk off at dawn...but he's a ways away. My husband says it looks like a prison with all the lights...maybe...I'll go in the coop and see how much light is coming in..

@Glasshen mine were crowing last night, I think it was the bright full moon. Once one starts I think it got all of them going, two coops, other coop doesn't have windows so I think the first coop got the second coop going.four cocks in each coop...I have to do some more culling....

I have had rooster who crow all hours of the night. I think they do it more if there is some kind of light, but I have seen them do it when there is no light. Once one starts it gets the rest going so I end up culling persistent night crowder because I don't want to start something with neighbors.

I got a new xbox, a pair o new chicken boots, some spikes for walking in the ice that may never come, and some other neat stuff. :)

My rooster was crowing tonight with the full moon....
As for Liberty, she's not low in pecking order and definitely eats plenty... she's quick and grabs food before others even realize it's there...Martha is still my low totem pole girl... poor thing.

I so want a premier 1 heat plate, but Santa didn't bring it...I don't like the heat lamps anymore, I'm so scared of fire mostly, and then if it blows when their little and it's cold if you don't have two going you can loose them all. The plate cost $, but I think they will save in the long run, my outside wood boiler cost $ but no worry of fire and I'm still at less than $700-$900 a yr to heat our old farmhouse, same regulated heat oil would give. Sometimes a one time expense is worth it in the long run. Let us know how the plate works for you Pyxis.
