NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks gramma chick. Yes, he's on grower. About four to five months old would be my guess on his age. We don't have any feed stores close by. I went out to Long Island the other day by my cousins house and bought a fifty pound bag of feed for twenty dollars.

Ouch, that is expensive! I get mine for $13 from Tractor Supply.

As for dominiques and buckeyes, both are good choices. @Metella has buckeyes. They're supposed to be really hardy and good layers, I think.

Somebody has red sex links an hour and a half away in ct. They're already laying. Is twenty dollars a good price for one? I'm thinking of getting two, so I can start getting eggs right away, (hopefully) while I wait for chicks to grow up.

Some Sad News here ..Sat night I lost my little Grey Goose ..

I dont know what they got into last week as 2 of them had this issue.. Chippie resolved it by herself
She (GG )had a Sour Crop for a few days ...I should have tried something before I let her go to bed ...
I saw her lay down ..I think she breathed in the liquid & died .
I found her sunday morning ..she was a sweet beautiful bird .i so enjoyed watching her grow .
She was a little over 4 months . Maybe I can hatch another like her ..she was from my flock
I did find some things .
to treat sour crop ...I wish I had tried them that night ..I blame myself that she died .
They do have capsules for this

Can be Bought at most stores - Docusate Sodium capsules (Colace)- a stool softener.

I never used to have these issues with sour Crop ...
so what have I been doing different ?
I have stopped using Apple Cider vinegar in their water regularly ..
Some studies say it stops them from absorbing calcium ..
im going to do it regularly now

Well now that I'm getting chicks, I'll be needing starter. I just finalized an agreement to purchase five chicks for 30. Vaccinated against marecks disease. Three dominiques and two Buckeyes. I'm scared and excited all at once. I'll go pick them up Saturday afternoon. Luckily I won't have to make the hour and a half trip to their house, as his wife works closer, and has agreed to meet me at her workplace or close by. Less than an hour away.
