I need to use some eggs. My ladies are happily laying daily. The pullets don't know it's cold. The light comes on at 7 am now.

I'm having egg overflow issues as well. We get 12-18 a day and can not use near that many. 90% of my recipe book is egg free because I hated store bought eggs. Now it's time to revisit my grannies books and go old school, eggs, lard and salt .

That is so funny ...me too ..I rarely ate eggs before we got chickens ..now I try to eat at least one a day ...
Can you put out a egg sign ? Fresh Eggs ?

This is my chickens before the cold wave ..
I mixed some sunflowers in there fermented feed ..so they had fun picking through it ..
Even the chickens that didnt have beards ...had beards & its on their combs too...
They looked like they played war with the food ..LOL

I try to do low fat recipes ..as my gallbladder has issues ...which need resolving ..
Waiting for my insurance to kick in ...couldnt afford the next test ..without insurance $ 1,200.00 for the test only ..
Then there is a charge for the technician too ...so I am babying it

Yes ..not much is worse than being sick & going out in the cold to take care of chickens ...
BUT it gets me out of the house ...and into fresh air .

I think the air inside the house...gets toxic inside this time of year ...

So I try to throw open all the doors once in a while ..and let the house vent ...
Just like we do for the coop ...and open my bedroom window for fresh air occasionally ...esp before bedtime

I have just enough eggs now. When I had RIRs way too many eggs. Some sell eggs to help pay for chicken feed, I cook them up and feed them to the dogs to save on dog food. That way I don't have to deal with people, not that I don't like people, I just don't want to deal with the hassle of selling eggs.

What are you using for your nipple waterers to heat them? I have an aquarium heater in the buckets and it keeps the water unfrozen but I can't keep the nipples from freezing. Got the chickens pretty well set up with plenty of good warm water and feed. I'm having a tonsillectomy this afternoon and I tried to get as much done so it's easier for my DH to watch the chickens. I know getting tonsils out as an adult can be a difficult thing to go through...wish me luck!!

nope no egg sign . Hubby said not until we have farm insurance. He's afraid our insurance company will catch us since they know we have chickens way beyond 4. I wish I had more people to buy them though. That's a lot of money.

Great easy recipe which uses lots of eggs:

It calls for 9 egg yolks, but I usually throw in a dozen. Cook until pumpkin pie consistency & use Sugar-in-the-Raw over the top. Delish!!

I'm so jealous of all of you with excess egg issues. I'd come buy some from you if you were closer... I have been getting one, rarely two a day for a couple months now (no supplemental light). Today I haven't gotten any yet...

As a vegetarian I have always used eggs for a source of protein, so I have a few egg recipes... A lot are labeled breakfast but make excellent dinners too!
Peas and eggs is an old quick meal- Google will bring up lots of results!
