NY chicken lover!!!!

THE CHICKS ARE HERE... YAY!!!
Midget was is a successful broody girl. 2 of the 4 eggs are hatched. So far the EE/RIR eggs have hatched just waiting on the EE/AL & the EE/MaransX to hatch. We are moving the little family in tomorrow.
The little sh*ts are sooo cute. Of course. Will post pics when I can and hopefully get caught up on reading the posts.

:weee I'm so glad that they hatched successfully for you! You may want to actually leave them in your garage and just put a heat lamp up for them so if they get cold and can't get under Midget they can go under that. If you take them into the house reintegrating Midget and her chicks later is going to be a pain in the butt.

I would wait a few days & see if she hatches the other 2 ...before moving them all ..

I can never make my fried rice taste as good as in those cheapo restaraunts !!!    :hu

My cousin's wife uses sesame oil and her fried rice tastes really good. But I don't know if that's the taste you're aiming for. Different cooks have their own 'secret' ingredients.

I sell eggs to my coworkers for $3 a dozen. I have several regular customers and then every once in a while a new person who want to give it a try - most of them become regulars after they get the first dozen or two. It's annoying this time of year because everyone still wants eggs but the birds aren't laying (well, the cemanis are, but those don't get eaten). I also would sell to my family, but until recently none of them have been interested. My mother doesn't like to eat any egg color other than white even when I can persuade her to eat my eggs, and something about it just freaks her out so she usually just gets store eggs. However my brother has been on a health kick recently so he's now more willing to eat my eggs over the store eggs. Of course, now that he wants to buy them, they're not laying

Lol, doesn't it just suck? Demand is more than supply. It's a businessman's dream. I think. I guess your customers will have to make do with store bought eggs until your supply is back.

Nice!

Ok, I'm finally caught up. How're you feeling, aka ruby? Hope you're recovering nicely. Well, I don't know if you guys remember, but I had wanted to start raising chickens with pullets instead of chicks, and I had a hard time finding pullets. Well, I see Lancaster fancy fowl has black australorp pullets, and I was thinking of getting two. ( I'm very impatient, I want those eggs!) what do you think of the breed? Will they be welcoming to the chicks when it's time to integrate them? I heard some chickens don't welcome new flock members, like the red star. I know they're supposed to be docile, but I don't know if they will be mean to younger birds that they don't know.

Had a big long post, shortened it to; research Lancaster fancy fowl first, read the reviews, looks like a good site to me...I've personally never ordered from them, reviews....you can't believe everything if it's a few, some people are just dingle berries...Read the reviews.
Australorps are good, not sure about red star, probably lay great.
Right now I have one coop with a few different ages, no one is picked on.

Red stars, AKA red sex links, are really great :) I have one going on four years now, really sweet chicken, jumps in my lap whenever she can, still laying great. She even went broody for me once and raised 13 chicks. Here's Lemon:

@Devona I have two Black Australorps and love them, One, Rocket, is my flock boss, but she is super sweet and loves my attention. Not exactly a lap bird, but always comes to greet me and see what treats I have, and the only one of my four chickens who will let me pet her 99% of the time.
The other is Sophie, and she's the low bird of the group. She's very timid and doesn't let me near her, but she's also very intelligent. She's also my best layer, for sure- she gives me long narrow "bullet" eggs. They are also really beautiful birds.

Black astrolorp is a great breed. Mine love everyone, well not people, they play with the dog the get along with the wild birds. They get big if properly cared for. Mine are the biggest of my flock.
