NY chicken lover!!!!

Can't say for sure, never know what work schedule is. I usually nab any available overtime, my jobs cake. If I don't work I usually get voluntold, only a couple here can do my job.
I just read through the thread this morning, I was going to post maybe more husbands would be willing to go if I brought a few five gallon kegs of homebrew...a Russian Imperial stout, a hoppy pale ale, maybe a watermelon wheat beer or a light lager for those that don't like real beer....? Lol!

My husband just started brewing beer. We have 2 beers going right now a pineapple IPA, and a smokey chocolate stout for myself! Ready in a few weeks. We could always bring some beer too!

How do you like Sandhill for chicks? Do you hatch and sell the Giants and Sussex ? I'm thinking of maybe not doing a super rare expensive green fire farms breed. I'm liking Swedish flower hens

I have had Mama inside for a while now. She was standing hunched and miserable, then went into a nest box and wouldn't come out much. I finally hauled her out and brought her inside. She wasn't moving much, and very little pooping. Gave her a bath, then checked her bum a couple of days ago, it was almost pasted up. More bathing. Very little eating, today I thought she wouldn't last the day, but she walked over to me, and ate a few finely shaved pieces of steak! She was very messy, so cleaned her up. I think water would be a help, but she is not interested. She has not been drinking the kefir, either, but that would probably help...think I'll just keep encouraging her to eat, and esp. Things that are kinda watery, like scrambled egg, won't count her out until I have to.

Poor girl, hope she'll be okay!

I am sorry for your trouble. This cold can be a pain in more ways than one.

I didn't mention it but I lost a C.Rock roo. Don't know what happened but suspect the EE roo moving into the coop upset him. I quarantined him of course but he didn't make it. His comb was all dark so it may have been something more. Of course my dragging myself out there with Bronchitis may not have helped either. Though I can't say for sure. No one else is off.

The EE roos is a you know what. Chases Shorty around the yard or was. Shorty has been with the C. Rocks and is okay there.

I moved the EE's and Big delores back to their own coop and don't let the C.Rocks out so the EE's can't go in there anymore.

Without doing an autopsy I guess we'll never know. Chickens do get lots of things, cancer included.

Still it breaks the heart.

Had to move an EE back to her coop since she got out and went in with the Daisies. They're out in the yard and I worry but what can I do with not run to keep them in? They mainly hang out in the garage, which would be okay if they didn't poop in the steps.

As others said, those are easter eggers, not ameraucanas. They would probably lay green or blue eggs, but with easter eggers there's no guarantee and you could just end up with brown. $20 is a little high for two year olds, I'd say $10 would be fair. At 2 they're probably still laying (I have a five year old EE that lays like clockwork) but they're just not worth $20 at that age especially with them being a mixed breed. Had they actually been purebred Ameraucanas of nice quality, $20 would be reasonable, but they're not.

i'm so glad to see that you have an article about raising dubia for chickens Pyxis! i was wondering if they were OK to feed chickens. we raise them for our beardie!

That's actually mostly why I raise mine! The chickens get to eat off the extra males for me and if my colony is getting too big they help me pare it down. Here's my beardie:

If you bring something hoppy, and I am able to come, I will buy some from you for my husband. He won't come, but I know he'd enjoy the beer. Maybe he'll forgive any chicken purchases if I buy some beer too. Haha.

the home brewers are bringing to sell or promote their product. However being as there will be as many children as adults I would appreciate the drinking to be done in the man cave area or once you have left. I'm all for having fun but that Dat I would like sober fun please. A sample of the home brews is one thing but no serious drinking in the chickenstock area.

Yep! It's just instinctual. Even though her daylight time never changes either because her lights are on a timer and she's always at optimum temperatures, she'll still brumate. She started this year in October. I'm hoping she'll be up by mid February.

one of our cats (not pictured) is totally afraid of her but Cinnamon (pictured here) is her buddy. the other cat is OBSESSED with the dubias though. she desperately wants to play with them.
