@Chicken girl 15 I have been looking into NPIP. I think the minimum birds you have to have are 30 and they can tear up to 300 a year. I was thinking NPIP was more necessary if you plan to sell hatching eggs and chicks somewhere other than within New York State

That's not correct. There is no minimum, I had NPIP testing done on a flock of 17 one year.

I met The lady who has them b/c she bought some Catskill Homesteader hatching eggs from me last year. Just thought I'd share in case anyone's interested.

A good day for ducks today with all the rain & of course it was the day when all the coops needed their dry feed refilled! But they enjoyed the warm temps & laid well today.

Hi all! Popping back in with a chick update! I am super impressed with Greenfire. I ordered 6 chicks and they sent me 14! Everyone arrived alive. Five of them were ayam cemanis too! Four of those are doing great. The fifth one has slipped tendons in both hocks Sometimes they can recover from this if you can keep them alive long enough that the groove that holds the tendon in place grows enough to actually keep it from slipping. So I'm feeding the baby from a syringe a couple times a day. We'll see. I also have a very helpful vet helping me on this. He told me he sees a lot of poultry. He had me text him pictures of the baby and he even called me after clinic hours last night to give me advice. I haven't ever taken an animal to see him and I'm not paying him for help so this is really impressive to me.

The other chicks are doing really well too. I got at least two CCL pullets, two others that I am on the fence on - can't decide whether they're pullets or cockerels. The rest are cockerels, so if anyone wants a nice CCL rooster let me know Pictures to come later!

Well I figured out what was going on with the Roosters ..
I found Bobby dead this morning ..So he was sick ...and the 2 other Roosters picked up on it ..
So I only have 2 now so it should go a little smoother ..Rooster wise.
I wonder.... if he and Budge got into something or if it was just a coincidence that they died in the same week

I too wondered if the roo situation wasn't the reason for the loss of a couple of mine. I think the being picked on causes them to become stressed and depressed. I noticed my EE/Amer chasing my lone C. Rock roos and he had been known to chase Shorty around the yard. I figured they'd be okay but now I'm rethinking it.

I had Ag & Markets out to my house last year & they tested 18 birds. Testing is super easy and free. The challenge is that u have to agree to only buy eggs or birds from other NPIP certified flocks. If u slip up, it just mean ur cert is not valid & u need to be retested. The cert makes shipping eggs & chicks out of state legal (tho no one at the PO really checks) and for showing u need either NPIP cert or a recent testing of ur birds for pylorrum. I think some shows are set up for testing on site. Ag & markets can test your flock for other things per your request, but I believe there are extra fees for that.
