NY chicken lover!!!!

So sorry How tragic ! What a Bad day ...
So 1 1/2 months ..Poor Littles  You dont have Barn cats ?
I would lock down the rest REAL Good till you know what did it ..

No barn cats. Had an outdoor cat when we moved here, but she disappeared after the neighbors moved in. Not sure if age or dog got her. Another neighbor down the road has cats that come around sometimes.
The rest go out free ranging. The spitz couldn't escape.

All my spitz babies are gone :,( They were there and fine this morning, but hubby went up to collect eggs a little while ago and found black in one corner, a silver dragged from under the Eglu wire. Found another under the hay tarp, next to a rat hole. Haven't found blue or gold's bodies yet. Egg count is down today too. Devastated.
Oh my goodness, that's awful... I'm so sorry :(

Well I sold Scotty my 8 month Rooster ..

Hes above the Shovel
He will be a mothers day Present ! from her 3 boys
Turns out they have no chickens ..Hens ..
So I sold them a hen too ...So he wasnt totally alone
They have had chickens a while ago
They might be looking for a few more hens ..
They tried to get some from the farm near them ...
they Had no luck ..Rancher still downsizing ? She is on backyard chickens ...the boys say ..
Maybe i will sell them more ...I dont know ...

I'm pretty much done downsizing, though I'm getting plenty of eggs. I have some young ones coming up. Too if I were going to be home I'd let the broodies have some eggs.

Anyhow right now I haven't any. I do have some folks ahead on the list though.

If you haven't you might consider Rat "snap" traps. Then you're sure you got the buggers. I use different kind of traps, Glue, snap of different varieties. If one doesn't get them another may.

I wish you well.

So very sorry. I can't imagine. I'm brand new to this and would be heart broken. The chooks are still in the house. My DH has lined the run with hard ware cloth then there will be a 2 nd fence around that. We have coyotes, skunk, raccoons a bobcat some one spotted a few years ago ( I know there are some about 20 miles north of here) And I also have to worry about my GSD's ( great dogs very high prey drive though:rolleyes:) I have noticed how kind people are on this group and willing to help I hope you get some new spitz and can console your daughter.

i have a broody hen. I only have 2 hens left so yay make the babies.

my question: looking for the second hen, i found her on top of the nest right next to the broody hen. They are like sharing the nest. Has anyone ever seen anything like that?
Also where is the second hen laying her eggs? Haven't gotten any eggs from "jelly" the second hen since then, so I think her eggs are also under the bird. What do you guys think I should do? Any advice is appreciated.

I know chickens aren't the brightest. It's not even inside the coop though, they made a spot UNDER the coop (thanks guys). She has not been going in at night though..

They could be co-brooding - does the other hen stay on the nest with the broody all day and night? I had two buff orps do this last year. If she's not brooding, yes, she probably is laying her eggs in the broody's nest. You should mark all the broody's eggs with sharpie and take out any new eggs that are added because when the first chicks hatch she will either abandon the unhatched eggs to take care of them or ignore them and let them die trying to hatch the remaining eggs.

So sorry :hugs I hope you find out what did it.
