NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi, New Yorkers! I'm from PA...
I have such a thing for seramas... and special needs, too... but can't get to this one anytime soon. If anyone here is interested... I had to pass it on! Thanks!

What's sad about that is a bet it's just a case of curled toes and could be easily fixed. Too bad it's too far from me.

Thad what I was thinking, too. I've totally fixed that problem on a silkie before. :(
But 3 hours is just too far for me to get up there.

It's over five for me :( Perhaps somebody should email the guy and explain that he can fix it really easily so that the poor thing isn't killed for no reason.

The chooks spent there first night outside in the coop. We were so nervous! We made the beginners mistake of buying a coop kit only to find the 700 hundred dollar thing was very flimsy. Hubby built chicken Fort Knox but I think we need to add some better locks to the back that drops down for cleaning. I don't know How they think 10 -12 hens could fit in the thing the 5 Pullets and Roo are more than enough.

Could someone give suggestions on how to re-home my 7 wk old EE roo. We can't keep him. I tried Craig's list and am going to put a sign up at the local grocery store. He will be black and white and gorgeous. Once he starts to crow we are in trouble........

Refrigerate until the rigor has passed. Can take a few days. You can tell when the leg moves freely. I usually put mine in a plastic shopping bag and tie it shut, then refrigerate for 3 to 5 days. Then I freeze it or cook it. Not sure if one day will be long enough. If he is still in rigor when you cook he will be pretty tough.

The other way I do older birds is a pressure cooker. If you cut them up and have a large cooker you can do two at a time. 20 minutes at 20 pounds. Then remove the meat, strain the broth into a cooking pot and a low boil until it is reduced to about half. Then I measure out the meat in 2-cup lots and freeze the meat and stock separately to use in casseroles and soups. Course you can use some of the meat fresh for a lovely chicken salad. I let the chickens pick the carcass clean and they get the skin and neck, too. I boil up the liver, heart and gizzard separate from the rest of the bird for dog treats.
thank you I learned something new. last chickens I know weren 't alllowed to sit. Long story.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but does anyone know how I might be able to find silkie chickens (preferably a couple weeks old up to 1 yr) somewhat near Canton, NY? I am willing to travel somewhat, up to maybe 1hr 30 min drive. I will be going to syracuse in approx 2 1/2 weeks, so could pick up near there as well (Or somewhere in between).
Why would you want Aliens. Have you tried Hangar 57? I think I saw some on an X files episode.

Seriously check CL, I have no doubt there is someone up north who has them.
