Gramma - if you like that shade of blue - I'll make sure to cut you a super deal next time to make up for the eggs I cracked and that didn't get to you. :) just super light blue.
You and susie Q gave me more eggs than i needed...I only wanted 6 each from you ..

Well - if you can hang onto any roos you get from me - I'll be glad to take them back next chickenstock - OR if anyone is coming my way - they can ferry them along.

But Give them time - especially the AB's - the roos are VERY LATE bloomers - so you just can't tell until they really start to crow - it seems their hackle feathers don't come out until AFTER they crow ! :) But they are all very sweet roos.

if all my AB turn out hens I can trade you for a roo. I will need him for breeding. In fact if 3 turn out hen I can swap you for a roo.

How in the world do I candle Marans egg? Just keep them cooking until hatch day unless they start to smell?

That's what I do. It's a relief actually. The only trouble I've had is when I adjust heat and humidity based on the air cell in a white egg it doesn't affect the dark brown egg the same way. The dark brown eggs tend to need less humidity.

Hi everyone. All is well here, albeit a bit wet. Part of the garden is planted. The meaties I have left will be processed soon. Wednesday, maybe. As friendly and funny as they've been, I'm not interested in raising them again any time soon. The EE/OE flock is well. I'm adding three near-POL pullets there this week so my Brabs will be separated for the duration of the summer. I discovered Andrea is actually AJ this week so the eggs will be delayed- I might end up with fertile eggs late fall. November? If I manage well enough I'll do a test hatch in January. I'm still wishing for a broody. I know if I get one I might end up with too many, but one would still be nice.

Here's BB King and his crew of characters.

would it be advised to put the dark eggs in a separate incubator?

Not necessarily if you've already started them with others. I know if I incubate multiple colors again I'll separate the white ones. All other colors seem to do okay together in my incubator, but the white shells have all been tough for me. It could also be the breed. Brabs are tough to hatch due to poor genetic diversity.
