NY chicken lover!!!!

Any one else near halfmoon ny?
Sorry in near the pa border. I would keep your bantam boy though. Those little guys are vicious about their girls. No predator is safe from a d'Uccle. Mine loves humans (and my other farm critters) he just won't tolerate stupidity in "his" farm. He has sounded the alarm 2 separate times. Both times there was a stray dog after the LF flock. Plus they are just frigging cute as can be.

This reminds me of when I first got my chickens. I had 8 different breeds of LF but had to buy straight run to get Frizzles. They of course were bantam sized. As things would have it, two were roosters.

Anyhow when they were nearly grown out and still in a broody pen, the little guys wanted the heat of the light and chased all the big girls to the sides, while they and the other three bantams spread themselves out under the light. It was pretty funny.

One rooster got names "Cowboy Curtis" because he looked like a Cowboy riding a horse when he mounted the big girls.

Frenchy is the only one I have left of the four. Cowboy Curtis and the non frizzed hen were sold.

She is over eight and still lays the occasional egg. This is her with two of three she hatched. That frizzle in the back is now named Cotton Candy by my daughters fiancee'.

How am I gonna faze out of chickens if they keep naming them?

Is there a LF that has the Vulture Hocks and feathered feet like the D'Uccle? I love the traits and think they are beautiful but I was told no more "mini critters".

Sultans, but they are very rare. However I'm just getting into them and will have chicks next year. I think bredas have them too.

the Bredas do as well. So now I'm off to hunt for non hatchery stock . Fun fun. The Bredas are also very tasty and good in size.

Good luck looking for local stock - if you find any let me know! The nearest I've found is in Pa. I got eggs but only 2 hatched and they are both having leg trouble

- I've named them Peg & Splat! check the Breda fowl page here. However, if you wanted to put in am order to get some I would go in with you....

I won't be able to order until spring but I found a few places that are not too horribly far. Maybe I can order them for pre chickenstock and you can pick up then. They look to be awesome birds of good size. Super family friendly so I'm very interested. I have to convince Jon we need a new breed first though.
