If you can sell them for a good price they are worth it. I think it depends on who else is selling them at the time. I find locally there are a lot of people that just want layers and are not willing to pay that price for day old chicks. But there are some who know their value and will jump on it.

It's a work in progress at the moment. I'm building more smaller coops in the basement that I will put outside before spring for whatever chicks I hatch over winter.[/quote] ok now problem. This one was insulated and had a light fixture for a low wattage heat bulb. Spoiled chickens moved in here.



This one is still a work in progress. Shingled roof, will be semi insulated with a chicken heating pad installed on the wall, and able to be separated in side for broodies.

I'm not doing it! I'm not, I'm not! I already have six eggs due the week before Christmas, two juvenile ACs and four IL chicks still in a brooder. I don't need more chicks this winter. I have to keep telling myself this or I'm going to set more eggs.

Thanks for the offer of eggs, at the moment I'm really looking for purebred.

As for the hatchalong im going to see if I can get some pure eggs in time. I did my candleing of my silkies eggs tonight and 3 more are gone. I still think one of the blue creams won't hatch but have a little more hope for the one with the air cell in the pointy end. I had put it pointy side up and hope for the best.

I am Definely NOT going to do this ...
I am waiting for the chicks to grow up so I can put them all together ..
They are not growing fast enough for me ..I need the baby coop for storage
I am slowly getting the coop ready for winter..got plastic up on the outside of the baby coop today
No winter chicks for me...
Went in to check on the adults for bed ..

I've been avoiding the hatchalong section for this reason. I'm in a good spot in my coop- 21 chickens- if I don't open the coop til noon they're fine- many molting- 4 to 8 eggs a day- no heat needed. I don't have the energy to build a brooder. I'll set for Easter, maybe.
