NY chicken lover!!!!

They are all fluffed up now, but still very pale yellow. I'm thinking they are rir x but with what? I thought puffy cheeks and fluffy feet were dominant traits. I could be wrong tho, tbh I usually am.

I'll have to look into what comets are then, ty.
Edit: comets are rir x white leghorn? WL was not on the list of possible Xs.. Maybe I'll just have to wait til their feathers come in.
It is!
How big is it? Was it hard to make? Do you have pics of the whole thing? Does it have a turner or do you turn by hand?

Well Got the coop cleaned out today ...If the weather holds Yard work tomorrow
What a Beautiful day it was
Well I had plans but got called into work early. Did a bit of cleaning yesterday. Doing it a little at a time. Opened two windows. Planting seeds for the garden. Some are up already. I really need more space but DW will not be happy. Work is going well but I am tired. She gets her second Chemo shot tomorrow.

Live Giraffe Birth in Harpersville NY ..
Be patient it may take a while

I'm surprised it's back up. I heard this morning anti's had it shut down for nudity and lewdness or some crap, even got the feed on Facebook shutdown.
If I heard right the mamma giraffe is one of the last one's born at the Catskill Game Farm before they closed. That place was hugemungus. I went there as a kid and was fortunate to take our older children a couple yrs before they closed. Animal Adventure is a nice place too, not very big but makes a good trip if you live near it. Not a place you could spend all day though. Been there a couple times. They definitely have room for expansion if they wanted to.
It's right next to chickengirls, you'all going to chickenstock should stop and see the place, doesn't cost much and kids really enjoy it. Way better than the Ross Park zoo in Binghamton IMHO.

Edit; looks like they are expanding. We went the first yr they opened, and again one other time but I don't remember when that was, maybe last yr, maybe yr before, IDK? Time flies somehow...

It's from an Omaha Steaks shipping cooler box thing, maybe 18" X 18" X 24" give or take (outside dimensions).
It was not that hard to make, but it took a while and a lot of tweaking to get it right. It helps that my bf went to school to be an electrician, he knows what he's doing with wires.
I have to turn by hand, but we did try to make a manual turner that went thru the wall. I drilled the hole (it was my idea after all) and I drilled it in the wrong place so we ditched it.

We switched to a red lightbulb b/c the purple one was too hot. It's also on a dimer switch, so we could turn it down whenever it got hot and up when it got cold. It never went above 102F, or below 98F (and while candling or turning, could get to 93F).
We used tupperware dishes with sponges in to keep humidity. One went under the eggs, and one under the bulb. Aquarium tubes ran from them to the outside thru the wall. Kept at 40-50% til lockdown, then 60-70%
There was a gallon ziplock filled with black aquarium stones under the eggs as a heat-sink, and two 20oz bottles of water (behind and to either side of the lightbulb), also heat-sinks.
The bottle near the fan had an aquarium tube thru the wall, and we used this water to keep humidity in the sponges. Depending on the temp inside, we would use cool, warm, or hot water to refill. We used a 10cc syringe (no needle) to transfer the water.
There was also a bit of foam insulation blocking the radiation from the lightbulb. And we used that hygrometer/thermometer and an instant-read thermometer (stuck thru side at egg level) to make sure of temp.
This thing cost us literally nothing, as we had all materials on hand.
10 out of 13 shipped eggs hatched. Lost 2 early to blood rings, and the third quit somewhere around day 15.

I'm ready to start a new batch now!
