NY chicken lover!!!!

Welcome to the obsession :frow

Obsession is an understatement lol. I had ducklings last spring, two of them. Ducklings are way more work so far. It has been an interesting week. Cleaning dirty chick butts, a prolapsed vent, hours of research trying to identify three of my chicks... lots of fun so far!

Welcome newcomers! I hope you enjoy the hobby as much as we all do.

My flock is integrated. All is well so far. One roo is clearly the leader. The other has created his own trio/quad depending on where they are. I'm very pleased so far. I'll try to get some photos in the snow today.

My "one big hatch" this year has been moved up. I'm setting eggs 4/1. The eggs I've ordered are mostly from a breeder in Florida that I've worked with before and was successful. Some are from SC, OH, and CA. The breeds I'm hoping to hatch are:
Blue Birchen, Blue, Splash Marans
Pumpkin Pavlovskaya
Isbar
Frisian Gulls
Cream Brabanter
Blue Wheaten, Blue, Splash Ameraucana
Lavender Ameraucana
Wheaten Ameraucana
&
My own Olive Eggers and Easter Eggers

Rancher, I'll let you know how the Marans do and PM you about the hatch ~4/22, if you're still interested.

I am interested for sure. If you have a Amer roo lavender or Blue to spare I'd be interested in that. My girls are laying and I'm tempted to open this incu and all that but can't decide. Whether I should return it and order the Genesis. 1588. I could get the turner at TSC for $10 off I suppose but the incubator Genesis is $144 without the turner.

Decisions, decisions............ Plus I liked dealing with Incubator warehouse. I had a problem and they fixed it, easy peasy.

I'll only have chicks for the lavenders and blues this year, and hopefully I'll have extras for you. My 2 adult roos are staying here for at least this year.
I vote for trying out what you have. I've heard criticism of Farm Innovators so I understand your hesitation. The majority of people who have Hovabators really like them, so I understand that option too. I am glad I built mine last year because I'd be struggling right now if I didn't. I hope whichever you choose, you can find the time to hatch some this spring. I know it's something you enjoy.

Here's Heihei and part of his harem today.

Thanks for the advice I do appreciate it. I had so many hens go broody last year that I sold the incu. BUT my lavender and blue ee's are getting older and I don't always hang on to enough newbies. Too the Marans didn't do so good laying so any they lay have to be tried. I got one chick last year and she's not very good. I'd hoped she was a roo so I could separate into two flocks.

Getting frustrated....post office can't tell me where our chicks are ...only they may be in air or on ground.... They were suppose to be here by today.... Worried gunna have a box of lifelessness. Its 30 degrees out... I'm willing to drive to Syracuse if means keeping them well

I'm sorry, where are they coming from? Do you have a tracking number? Mine from Ideal made it in today and they are all healthy and energetic, so don't give up, yours could be just fine.

Meanwhile I do have an adult bird that reached the destination sort facility that should be getting in today that so far hasn't.
