Keeps snowing here in Buffalo. Luckily the schools are closed - so no work the last 2 days has been majorly restorative. The chicken door is covered in snow, so the light sensor isn't picking up daylight, so I don't even have to go out to close it. Went to get eggs and offer treats. The girls are still laying, and now, my younger girls have joined the "club"!!! however, their eggs are still pretty tiny. Dark enough to be encouraging though! Finally feel like I have a good enough baseline to begin to darken my eggs. I want them to be dark dark mahogany. I am working with two separate lines of Black coppers. Here is a pic of some of the best eggs Ive been getting recently. Didn't use a filter and the auto setting on an actual camera instead of a cell phone for once.
Incubator has some birchen eggs but due to a power outage, I'm not so sure how that project will turn out. Coop construction has been halted for now. Might even get a chance to pull out the X-country skiis this year after all.
The dogs are loving the snow , as always. I'm getting some pretty fabulous photo backdrops!
Also it's pretty funny to see the "little" german shepherd try to take giant gallops with each step. The older one, it could be her last winter since shes 13. She might be the most important thing in my life. I'm sure I will go out later and make snow angels with them. Laughing in the snow like a little kid- but really...just a weirdo playing alone with her 2 dogs. Playing in the snow in the woods with the dogs is great fun. They let me pick up on that animalistic energy generated by the forest and for me that is enough. I just have to keep an eye out- to ensure they aren't scarfing up a mouth full of deer poop before they come "mouth" at my face while I'm on the ground and defenseless. They really LOVE deer poop. yuck.
Deer poop, rabbit poop, chicken poop......all fair game
