NY chicken lover!!!!

Hellloo fellow NYers. I'm between Syracuse and Rochester, small town called Geneva. I'm starting again with a new flock after having to give away my first flock due to neighbor issues. I bought this flock of 10 as 9-13 week olds. Last time, I raised from day olds. These new ones aren't as people friendly as my old ones. And Ive had a rough start, first with Cocci, then with some kind of attack that scattered them all and one was living in the woods across the street for 4 days before I could catch her.
We are in a good place right now, and I'm looking forward to getting eggs and if we get a broody, I'm going to give her hatching eggs instead of breaking her!
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome, not too far from you, I'm nr Buffalo. Sorry to hear of neighbor probs with previous flock, hope this new flock works out well, and you those get first eggs soon. As a fairly new chicken keeper this has been a great place for me to learn and ask questions.

Any advise regarding my sneezy chick?

Hi all, my little Red Sexlink 'Ginger' is about 15 weeks now, and starting to get a little pinker in the face. My only concern with her is that she seems quite petite, and not growing very fast, still feels quite bony in the chest. They recently transitioned from starter to grower food, with occasional extras of natural yoghurt and weeds from the garden. I have just ordered some handheld digital scales with a hanging hook, so when that comes I'll be able to pop her in a bag and monitor her weight, see if she is actually growing.

Her newer companion, Silver, the Ameracauna (the replacement for the EE pullet chick who turned out to be a rooster) has been here around 10 days, she's a few weeks younger, doing that teenage molt at the moment. She is a little bigger than Ginger.
She has a nasty sneeze which seems to flare up, and then get better, however the recent really humid weather has made it noticeably worse, I'm seeing snot bubbles from her nostrils, and some gulpy post nasal drip type swallowing.

I researched on here of course, and purchased some VetRX last week, used as proposed on the label, few drops of the unheated liquid into the water, so as the oil sits on the waters surface it gives a little coating to the beak when they drink. Every night I soak kitchen paper with warm water and clear any obvious gunk from her nostrils, (she's doing a lot of wiping her beak on the ground and getting bits of food and woodchips stuck to it) I put a small amount of the VetRX in a syringe, sit that in warm water, and once its heated through put a dab under her wings and onto the skin at the nape of her neck so she will inhale it while sleeping.

Her eyes are clear, I haven't found any problem with her crop (as I've been reading about various crop problems which show up via sneezing issues), or seen any stool problems. Appetite and activity level are normal for both chicks. They are in a large pen on woodchips during the day, and mini free range on lawn within a fenced area when we can supervise them in the evenings.

I'm just wondering, as this isn't clearing up with just the VetRX if there are any other meds I can get over the counter I should try? I have apple cider vinegar with 'mother' but wasn't sure if that was OK in the water at the same time as the VetRX?

Finally these 2 who we are referring to as the 'little chicks' as opposed to the 3 adult 'big chickens' have suddenly discovered they really, really want to roost at dusk. Instead of heading back to their little coop, they have found a new perch!

Sorry quality is terrible, ancient flip phone, moving chicks and dusk are bad ingredients for a clear picture, but you get the idea - quite alarming to have chicks who are happily pecking round your feet one minute, launching straight at your face the next!!!

Welcome! Sounds like you've got a zoo to rival mine! I've got chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, two cats, a quaker parrot, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, and a betta fish.

Well still have hens on eggs. Can anyone tell me about barred EE's. I've got some from somewhere in the line. I figure the Delaware/EE crossing. One pullet has nice beard and muffs. Yet all with single combs.

The small eggs I thought to be frenchy's since it's her nest box are most likely the Marsh Daisies.

I've managed to give a way some chicks. Most importantly three large roosters. One go out so he's still here.

IN OTHER NEWS, I hear a rooster crow over at the neighbors. Isn't that nice. Too a neighbor down the road has a sign out for eggs. I've too many eggs.

Does anyone have any insight on if any of these are Roos or pullets? I am still new at this but we have tons of chicks that are about 3 months old... I really don't know how to tell what some of them are (aside from the obvious - like crowing or the crazy rooster tail / comb)
