NY chicken lover!!!!

Good morning! My name is Frank & I am a chicken hobbyist from Olivebridge, NY (about 20 minutes from Woodstock NY.). I was wondering if there are any other hobbyists in my area, on this site?
I have been in the hobby for 5 years now. I have raised Rhode Island Reds, Gold Stars, Cuckoo Marans, Cream Crested Legbars, Welsummers, Icelandic’s, Silkies, & a few mutts! I really enjoy raising my girls, along with bee keeping, & gardening.
Welcome to the coop :)

Nice birds Hilly!!! yeah im a marans lover myself. This year working on my black birchens. I lost my breeding pair last year UGH but was able to set eggs that my hen left behind. Luckily I had 2 males hatch and one was taken while free ranging. The other I've been keeping a super close eye on and hes about 9months now. Predators always striking around here. Here he is a week ago when we had a few warm days :)

He looks a LOT like his dad!!

ive noticed with marans that i have (black copper and the black birchen) that the males take longer to show color faults. The females, I can tell who is going to get a nice hackle color pretty early on. Kinda stinks because when I want to pick a back-up male for each I have to have like 2 young doods for awhileeee before I can see what they are getting at. UGH so many roosters...so much funnn :hmm:hmm

Checking in after an age.. All is overall well although just lost my old half blind chicken 'loaf' - she somehow waited until *after* the mega cold /sigh.. At least the others are doing well!

RIP Loaf 2012-2018.. (old pic, she no longer had the beard and was sans one eye)..

So sorry for your loss. As sad as it is to hear that someone’s chicken has passed away I love hearing they lived a happy long loving life.
