NY chicken lover!!!!

Howdy from Texas,
How do y'all who live in that area protect your chickens? Do you think a fence kit like the one in this link suffice? https://www.critterfence.com/chicken-fence-kits
Any suggestions or comments will be very appreciated.
Thank you!
Horse fencing works well ...not too expensive in some places
Need Post to keep it up

Chicken wire works to keep chickens in but not predators out ( too Flimsy)

Predators are all over. We lost many chickens. Now we keep them
in the coop and we have a RUN. That seems to work for now. Spring and Summer.....? Aria

Well Its been so wet I couldnt bag leaves...SSOOO,,
I had a idea..they were a little wet ...but not soaked ..
So I used my lawn rake to gather them and I just dumped them in the coop ..
To a layer of about 10 inches ..
Got a couple more loads and put them in some tarps ..
if we get a early spring I can do it again ..it is a little more work to stir it every day.. in case it is wet underneath ..It has saved me from buying straw so far

gramma chick....that looks like TOO much work to me. We purchase hay bales and keep adding layers. And we get the bales
from a neighbor and 13 Bales lasts about 2 to 3 years. AND easy.

Problem with hay tho is if you use it for compost or spread it, it grows awful weeds like burdock, hogs weed, wild parsnip, golden rod, and other nuisance and dangerous weeds. After having horses for years, we got over run with crap weeds. Finally just starting to get it all under control.

We have not had this problem. We usually put it heavy around
our evergreens. No weeds seem to grow. We do NOT spread it
thin. What do you use? Aria

I found straw molded which I didnt like
It is a few hours work.. It is pretty easy with my lawn tractor and lawn lawnrake.jpg
raker and it is free ..
The hard part is putting it in bags which I didnt do this time . I basically dumped it on a tarp and pulled the tarp into the coop and dumped it .. it is exercise...and I enjoy being out with the chickens

The evergreens provide enough shade ..probably doesnt encourage weeds to grow .
all my leaves and grass from my coop go into the garden for rich mulch and cover to discourage weeds from growing in the summer
