NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone hatching chicks right now? Looks like I might have a singleton hatch. I don’t usually start chicks this early in the year, but let a friend convince me it was a good idea.
I just put 6 bantam white polish eggs in the bator last night. I hope more than one hatches. Not sure what If do if I get only one. Good luck!!!

The penalties are not worth it. Fines and revoked NPIP certification. If your gonna do NPIP then do it right. That’s the point of it.

A question for you - what fines are there? I of course am not going to be not following the program since I want to keep my certification, lol, but I can't find anything anywhere about facing fines if you don't comply.

In fact, all I could find was this, which seems to say all that would happen is you'd lose your certification:

"9. Federal standards:
The National Improvement Plan for Breeding and Commercial Poultry is set forth in Title 9 of the Code of Federal Regulations Parts 145, 146, and 147. The provisions of those Parts allow poultry producers and dealers to participate in the Plan upon a finding that their facilities, personnel, and practices meet the standards set forth in the relevant provisions of such Parts. A participant in such Plan who has failed to comply with applicable requirements, however, is “debarred” from participating and thereby loses the benefits associated with being a participant but is not subject to any other administrative action or penalty nor to any judicial action."

I asked the Agricultural department in Maryland when I was obtaining a permit to ship there and they told me that fines and such are decided by the state you ship to. Depends on their laws and how bad of a penalty they have. She said Maryland slaps ya with some hefty fines if you don’t comply with their laws of import so it’s not the NPIP program itself that reprimands but whatever state your shipping into.

Not suggesting anyone should, but what are the penalties for not shipping with these things.
I have shipped birds to other states - no NPIP. No-one has ever asked yo see the paperwork that is supposed to be done.
Since NPIP is voluntary I don't see how they can govern all shipping.
While I can see the ultimate purpose of NPIP registration, I am not a big fan.
People can get NPIP birds that are free from AI or pullorum but can be infected with Mareks, IB etc. so consumer protection is spotty at best, IMHO

PT and AI are absolutely deadly and more serious but there are tests for it. Mareks can only be detected via death and necropsy of the bird so that can’t really be monitored. It’s a hit or miss.
