NY chicken lover!!!!

To bad I didn't know I've sold all my Delaware chicks. I've got more coming on the 15th. And hopefully two as we speak. (heard peeping under Frenchy).
I have some roos from Specklehen but haven't decided which to keep.

Hi everyone,
Sorry I've been MIA, but I have been real busy. So busy that my incubator is empty.
My horse, Sammy is finally home

and getting a lot of attention!
It will take a month or 2 to get him back in shape and looking good. But everyone is happy!

no bath auction for me, I need to figure out what my chicks will grow up to be before I start getting more chickens. Would be helpful if they were all the same breed, then I could compare and contrast.
But what's this thing in batavia I hear about? That is my neck of the woods and will be worth checking out.

Amy: wow, you guys need to electric fence the whole darn yard, I am sorry you keep losing animals. We still haven't gotten our fox, but we are afraid to leg trap with all the pet cats around, and after we shot and missed it, the fox got the point. Worried about the fox pups that I am sure are out there and waiting to eat more chicken.

and....what is up with this freakin weather? I just had to move my 4 week old chicks into the bigger enclosure cause they outgrew my brooder and now it's freakin cold! I may have to put a heater out there cause I can't get the light far enough down!

Hello to Everyone!!!!
I, too, have been MIA for quite a while. I've been inundated with eggs and the Fuzzy Butt Brigade has added another unit(smile). They keep me hoppin'......but I'm enjoying it. I've had 44 chicks born since 4/18......and some more due each week(I always do staggered hatches). Most are hybrid chicks from my own flock, some are assorted Cochins(LF) from kennedyscochins (BTW, I highly recommend them for anyone wanting Cochin eggs.......out of 15 eggs, I got 12 awesome chicks).
I've also been incubating more quality BLRW's from the Foley, Jesse Paul and Barber lines. I got my shipment of chicks from Sterling Center Farm (which is in Vernon, NY.....I recall someone on this thread lives there)on 4/14. Working on establishing a very nice foundation flock. I've also been adding new blood to my Ancona and Magpie duck flocks.......and adding Blue Cayugas, Silver Appleyards and Saxony. Currently I have 4 incubators running......duck eggs can be rather large.
To all the newcomers, welcome!!!! There are so many great ideas and great info on this thread!!! I hope to become more active on here again. And I'll try to post some pics.
Happy Mother's Day!!!!!!

Hello, I was wondering what chicks you got from Sterling Farm Center...that is like 2 miles from me! I have had 3 hatches this year. I started the 1st of Feb and then have had one each month. I have some Cochin 3 std and 15 bantams...I am so hopeful as 4 are Millie Fleur's. I am going to try and collect some from my 4 little bantam cochins this week and then start them on Friday. These are from Jamie Matts flock. Wish me luck as I have had ok hatches. This last month was the best. I just love reading everyone's post. Thank you to Chicken Stalker for the little lavender chicks..blended right in with the cochins. Happy Mother's Day to all

Kathy are blue cayugas the ducks with the black/blue feathers and bill?

Hello There, Cydney83!!!
Aha....I knew someone lived out there in Vernon!!!! Sue Osio at Sterling Center Farm is amongst the top breeders of Blue Laced Red Wyandottes!!!! That's what I ordered from her last month.....I got 16 chicks and am very thrilled with them!!! She also has excellent Marans and Ameraucanas(White and Blue Wheaten). Very nice birds!!! She usually sells both chicks and hatching eggs. You can see her birds at www.sterlingcenterfarm.com. I eventually plan on ordering some of her Ameraucans eggs.
I'm glad your hatches are going well!!! And you have some excellent chicken breeds.... I, too, love the Cochins (both in banty and LF), Mille Fleurs, Ameraucanas and any bantams in general. Good luck !!!
Cayugas come in Black(a very pretty black with an irridescent green sheen to it), Blue(varying shades) and Splash(Silver or White with Blue overtones). A very nice breed of duck. There are also Blue Swedish ducks.....blue with a white bib on the chest
