When I was NPIP tested I was told by my regional state tester she's never seen anyone fail yet. Not sure if failure means quaruntine of the birds or what. Expect questions like do you hatch your own, they may want to see your incubators/brooders, how you dispose of egg shells and general biosecurity. Its a little intense but kind of cool. I happen to agree about the government radar thing, but also want to be able to freely ship my eggs/birds wherever I choose and show... so it's kind of... complicated... I guess would be the word.

I feed my shells back to the birds crushed and mixed in the grit. Is that a problem. I do hatch chicks but not always my own eggs. Though I do intend to have a closed flock once things get going. What types of questions do they ask? What things can one do to get prepared for the testing.

If you got the eggs from someone else they need to be NPIP too or it like voids your certification, it is egg transferable. They look at how clean everything is, space for the birds, basically how you run your operation.

Has anyone used this No pick stuff from Eggcartons.com?
There were no warnings on the label or instructions. If you buy it becareful. I nearly had a hard time breathing when I sprayed it inside the coop. Not much better outside the coop either. It doesn't say when or how often to use it. I have some birds that are pretty bald from the roo I thought but now I'm not so sure.

Any idea how long before I should notice some difference or feathers growing back?

Hey Tim, remember that wheaten ameraucana pullet? The one that went broody? Remember, that dollar bill sized bald patch on her back? It took roughly two months, but all of her feathers are back in and she looks so pretty! Granted the poor thing has been eating medicated chick starter for quite some time, roughly six weeks all told, but that is 18 percent protein. Just trying to give you a timeline.

Hi again! I'm in the process of buying a house, and while it's not technically legal to have chickens, I'm going to get some anyway and just hope for the best. If everything goes well, I'll have a little under an acre here in CNY, already fenced in and a cute little shed that just told me to convert to a coop. Any one know of any place in the Valley (I'm in Herkimer) to buy eggs/chicks? I haven't decided if I'm going to try to hatch some, or just outright buy some chicks. It wouldn't be until end of July/August though. I'm really interested in Buff Orpingtons, Wynadottes and Easter Eggers.

Anyone have Old english games bantams for sale???

I appreciate it too.. I can't wait for them to grow back. A number of others are showing some wear, I just can't believe it's all from Nick. He's my only roo. Plus it's right near the tail. So I figure I've got a picking problem. I'm almost out of the No Pick so I guess I can find some Blue Kote.
