Check out the NY chickenstock thread. I went to the PA one and it was great. It was really nice to meet people and to talk chicken. Lots of great breeds, some I've never seen in person. Great raffles, food and friends...they did a wonderful job.

Hi fellow NY'ers.I just joined and live about 20 miles west of Syracuse.My name is Linda and I have silkies,polish and light brahma bantams.Would love to find some frizzled cochins.Went to the poultry show at the Fairgrounds and had a great time.

I have some free to a good home babies that will soon be hatching. The dad is a Partridge Cochin ( beautiful Roo) and various moms. I have Black, buff and 2 white cochin hens along with the rest that you can see in my sig line. I have 2 broodie hens sitting on 19 eggs . If anyone is interested in them you are welcome to pick them up after they hatch out or I can meet you part way. I live in Brockport NY.

I like Silkies! I have rabbits though, so I suppose Silkies are like the fuzzy bunnies of chickens. I actually didn't much like chickens when I first started (just liked the income!) There must be something in chicken dander though, because the dang things have grown on me, so much so that I now have Quail and ducks too!

Lets see, I have Australorps chicks(black and white), Bantam Dark Brown Leghorns chicks, a Buff Silkie Quad (brood/pet quailty) (and one Buff Silkie chick) Harelequin, Pekin and Sweedish ducklings. An extra male Mexican Speckled Bobwhite Quail.

And a Blue Cochin Pullet that is looking awfully alot like an Ameraucana! I think one of my hens "stepped out" on her Roo, or the Ameraucana hen was bred by the Cochin! :O I got rid of the extra Ameraucana Roo, and I haven;t been saving any eggs out of the other hen, but these guys were from my first batch of the year. Its looking like its got a beard! Plus the body type is looking awfully Ameraucanay! Figures huh? I sure hope the eggs hatch in the bator! I did find a couple show Cochin breeders, so maybe I might get some upgrades to the pen later this fall.

And a Black Rex Brood doe.

I'll probably pack up the extras and send them to the auction this Sat, so if anyone wants, email me before then. I might hang onto the Harlequin and Sweedish ducks to show at the fair next month, only I have no idea what sex they are!

I just sold some stuff on CL this week, but the chick sales have been dead! Now, if I had hens, those I could sell truckloads of!

What is a "test hen"? Delawares are the best chickens in the world. They laid very well this winter have nice personalities. Well maybe sometime. I do have one who is broody and she's going to be set with some eggs tonight if all goes well. I'm very excited to have a broody Del.

Feather sexing is pretty much impossible with breeder quality birds, since we are breeding for tpe, egg color etc. Feather sexing only works if you know if you bird carries certian feathering genes. Hatcheries sometimes use this.....anyway. Sounds like you might mave a pair. The one that gets red first generally is a male. By now there should be a size difference also. Males will be bigger. Because lavender is a project color they are a couple things to look for. Make sure they have pea combs, tail angle and a consistant color (no lacing or bleed through colors). These imperfections do pop up from time to time.

Just my term for something I'm using to test colors, or diet, or any other thing... They're for a Sex Link Project, but I'm not sure that the Roo I have will hatch out correctly colored Sex Links, so hence the Test Hen, since if that doesn't work, I'll have to use Barred Rocks.

Still trying to figure out how to do Sex Link Silkies, But I'm coming up blank.

I'd like to do those for next years spring sales and the auctions. Silkies just don't come in the proper colors for doing it I guess? Pretty sure white is recessive white and not dominant white, so that won't work...

I sexed my Ameraucanas last year by tail feathers, no one ever told me if I was wrong or not though! I did it on the four I kept, thinking they were all hens, but nope, two were Roos!

I think the Blues and Black are all Pullets, They look to all be the same thing, anyone wanna bet I end up with Four Roos? I can't tell on the ones in the brooder yet, I'd guess two and two.

Chicken stalker was right on the money on the chicks she sexed for me last year, and those were what, week old? I'm very impressed!

Ya wanna come sex all the Silkies I have running around? I think my plan for them is to pick out the ones I like the best, throw them all in a pen and just wait for eggs/crowing!

I have a pair of Bantam blue cochins that I was sure one was a Roo and not a pullet, but they're both laying, LOL

Looks like I have a line on some nice Show Quality Cochins, only they're 50 bucks a bird.

I'm sure they're worth it, but now I have to sell a boatload of stuff to pay for them, plus I need to cull a rabbit or two so I can lock them up! I'm not paying 50 bucks a bird and having them get eaten by the local Fox/Hawk/Possum/Mink! I paid 35 bucks a piece for two of my Ameraucana hens (worth every cent) and I have fits every time they escape from the pen! Not sure about you guys Ameraucanas, but I had to lock mine up and roof their pen to keep them in, and they STILL will find ways to get out!
