NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi, all I am trying to arrange transport for a special needs black silkie from PA near the maryland border to western NY is there anyone on here that travels that might be able to help make part of the journey?

Hi! I'm in cny and its getting pretty cold here!! My girls refuse to go to sleep in the coop!!! I put them in and shut them up and yet night after night they roost on a gate, rabbit hutch and 1 atop a 25ft pear tree!!! So I guess my question is will they die or turn into chickencicles if I don't put them to bed EVERY stinkin night!!! Are they really that dumb or am I the dumb human for not letting them decide when to seek shelter????!!!

Hi Cody, I'm in E. Syracuse.
You don't say what breeds you have. Some breeds are more prone to flying high than others. If you've let them roost outdoors all summer you may have created a problem. My guess is yes they will freeze to death unless you keep putting them indoors by hand at night. You may try leaving them inside the coop for a couple maybe even a few days. This may help them get the idea that this is where they need to go.

take care and have a safe winter.

Thanks!! I guess I'll have to do that, though I usually don't feed them in there hmmmm.......I did let them be all summer I thought they'd have the brains to go in when it got cold!! Oh and I have 3 Amber links, 1 NH, 1RIR and my high flyer is the oh soo annoying but pretty girl Brown Leghorn she's flighty, and noisy!! But she's my sons girl so she has to stay =/

Tab's chicken obsession :

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! It went by fast, now there is only 4 weeks til christmas.
On a sad note, we lost one of our best layers this week. We think she was egg bound, our first experience of this. Didn't realize it until too late. I'm turning the last few eggs of hers into ornaments for the tree.

So sorry for you loss. Great idea to use the eggs for ornaments.

We have 3 RIR hens. They are great girls and we are very attached to them.
