The evil silkie strikes again! Muahahahaha!! Tin foil hats don't work--- ask Trish!

Our silkies live in coops. Hubby makes them 4x8 & raised about 2 feet off the ground so they have a shady place to go hang out. They do just fine with the ramp. Their roosts are either on the floor or about 1 foot up, because they can't fly. They are our only bantams.

APA & ABA accepted colors are White, Black, Blue, Buff, Gray, Partridge and Splash. I believe self blue (lavender) was recently accepted. You can show cuckoo, porcelain & paint AOV.

I have BBS & White that I'm currently breeding. Only 1 lavender & 1 porcelain made it to lockdown for the next hatch, so I'm bummed. I had a good hatch of cuckoo & black that I won't know if I'm keeping till they grow out. And I'm absolutely beside myself, jumping up & down happy with the paint chicks I got from Nikki!!!

Here's a hug and I hope you feel better - get out in that Sun this weekend and if you can play hooky I think everyone should be off on Monday. I personally think NY should make the first WARM day of Spring that is about 70 degrees a holiday but that's just me...

Who had the NPIP Inspection last week what it Hensey or am I just delirious thanks to the Lyrica and all the other crap they have me on????

Alright, I admit it...tinfoil hats do not deflect silkie vibes..they seem to help absorb them even faster! I'm hooked..dang it!

Now, I've really gone off the deep end and have started replacing my so so ameraucana flock for Renee's super nice birds...thanks Renee..my chickie enabler! LOL

Fyrekitten - All is well here. Been working too much to see the sun.

Sounds like you have your hands full with all the eggs. Is your broody hen going to help with incubation?

Glad to hear you have plants in. The boys have started some marigolds already - it's just too hard to wait till May to start them. If they live, we will plant them around the tomatos along with some marigolds we plant from seed. We have to go through seeds soon and plan out the garden. Lettuce planting time will come very soon - can't wait to get some fresh lettuce.

The Chickens love it too.

Welcome to the new BYC forum users!

Orpingtons are getting so big. Now they are only having the brooder light at night. Probably don't even need that, but hate to go to sleep and think they might be cold.

Looking forward to the nice weather. Maybe Orps can go out for a little while once or twice this weekend. Wonder what they'll make of that! Have to watch it tho, the neighbors cats have been out and about the last few days. They love to make visits to our house. The rule is - it's ok to hunt, but not to hunt chickens.

Happy Country Hens.

That was me. She came, tested 30+ chickens and quail and all passed with flying colors. I should be getting my NPIP number within the month. The Ag & Mkts rep is so nice and KNOWLEDGABLE. It's great to talk with someone that knows what they are doing. Such a simple process really. I would love to have Monday off. I drive school buses and work in the kitchen at our high school. Absolutely love the kids and actually the jobs too. At one of them, the kitchen, absolutely cannot stand the people up there. They are back-stabbing, trouble making women. So dissapointing. I have been driving for 5 years and have never, ever, had an issue with anyone. That kitchen is truly "Hell's Kitchen" Very doubtful I will go back in the fall. I signed on for this year and that may be it unless some major changes go on.

Anyway, Monday. Sun! Tomorrow I will be putting up my new-to-me goat fence. Bought it at Double M Rodeo used. 6 ft tall 400 ft long total. Really heavy no-climb horse fence with the "square d knot" not the welded wire stuff. $200 on CL. So cheap! Fence post pounding here I come!

OMG!!!! Congrats Hensey and good stinkin luck on the fencing! I had a couple goats last year we bought at about four months - they were a pair of nuts! Clarice and Chloe were determined that we were from Hell even after we gave them treats. Try to trim their hooves and we would have to chase them for fifteen minutes to catch them and then they would cry like we were killing them! They managed to get stuck in the welded fencing panels two or three times too! I did manage to have the one Saanen Chloe start getting close to me when my back was turned and we could pet them through the fence but THAT was it - I hate to make you mad and tell you they now reside in our freezer.

My eggs from Vilamil farms are great! Got several kinds of cochins, japanese, java, light split sussex, black copper marans, silver duckwing yokohama, silver duckwing oegb, and a couple I have no idea what the initials mean - maybe all you knowledgeable chicken peeps do! Self Blue OEGB???? BWR???? BBL???? I will have to ask him about a couple of others - there are six eggs that are small and bluish green - very pretty - I assume they are probably bantam Ameracaunas????

Anyway ended up with 52 eggs out of that auction on BYC. I have the fifteen from Laurie in the incubator - five are silkies and I can already hear them saying "keep mee...."

i love the little Silkie ditties! They just seem to pop up in my head. I really need to write one about all my adorable other chicks!

I have about 100 plus tomato plants going in the house, some corn started, and a couple hundred pansies, petunias and nicotania. I have some others but I just can't recall. I received my five each of Purple Coneflowers, Black Eyed Susan, Apple Blossom Yarrow, and two kinds of Sedum along with some Garlic Chives. They all go in the ground along with the other daylilies and iris that have already arrived. We are going to add some of the chicken and cow manure tomorrow to the gardens and till them to let them aearate and age a little tomorrow. I need to find my clippers to trim my fruit trees and my 20 or so rose bushes so I can feed everyone. NOW is the TIME! I already planted two of my front planters and started cleaning out the gardens. I have one tulip tree I bought late last year we never got in the ground. I thought it was a goner but when I checked it yesterday it was alive and in excellent shape. If you haven't guessed yet - I am an AVID gardener! I love to work in the plants and to can and freeze things too

Sigh, enough on this one.

Someone needs to poke Rancher and get him on this forum - miss him too!
