NY chicken lover!!!!

I am sooo bummed. 4 hens and NO eggs for 48 hours. And only ONE egg in the past 72 hours.

I fed them grapes. I fed them oatmeal. I fed them over 50 worms. (the look UP when they hear my voice now, looking for more worms) And still no eggs. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe they just needed a sabbatical. Do you have any Roos around them? That certainly can disburb their laying if the Roos are being a bit too "friendly" Maybe they just need a few days.....I would give them some corn to cheer them up!

No roos. No Sabbactical allowed. They just started laying a month ago. It's almost easter and I want itty bitty eggs to give to my nieces and nephews.

We have been down there making a lot of noise with power tools and hammers. Would that bother them? But now we are totally done with the coop construction, run construction and cutting out the pop door. And they laid an egg on Saturday while we were down there. LOL

I have some corn left over from the ducks last year. I'll try that. Seems they don't like sunflower seeds unless there is NOTHING else to eat , except chicken food.

i just noticed that there is someone in Chick Auctions that has Cuckoo Maran babies for sale - don't know anything about them......

Hmmmm... I think we need the chicken gurus for this....Rancher, Tgrlily, Maadensaccord, Hensey, Muggs....and all the rest - could it be the noise? Maybe it is then change in nesting boxes, how high do you have them? Could be tomorrow that you'll have bunches and everything is normal now that the new coop is done - maybe they just need a few days to settle in!

Well my kids were sick so we didn't make it to the auction... bummer I was hoping to get more eggs... (shhh don't tell my husband)

They are new at this! Maybe too many treats? I was getting maybe 2 eggs, then 4, then 2, etc. I was impressed that you got 4 right off the bat! They like you more!

I only fed them flock raiser + oyster shell (they were in with non laying age pullets) plus the occasional oatmeal treats on cold mornings and a bit of cracked corn when it was REALLY cold. They like mushy chicken food too (food mashed in with hot water). They were laying for me in a rattan cat cozy.. most of the time. LOL. You aren't using shavings like I was, so I doubt they are hiding them. I found a few under shavings.

I have hatched a few lots of guineas - they are same as chickens, but supposedly take 28 days. They never ever take that long, so lock them down early or they will hatch in the turner! See the incubation threads and you'll notice they often come out day 24-25.

Cass--if they are new layers they can be sporadic until they get all the kinks worked out. Mine were. I waited forever for the first egg and then even more forever for the rest to lay. I suspect that I had one that didnt even start laying until after they molted in december as I found a pullet size egg after that. Yes, all that noise and activity can throw them off as well. I also found that if I gave my girls scratch or cracked corn, they laid less the day after but if I gave them yogurt or protein, they all gave me eggs. Weird, I know but I picked up on that trend when I was trying to figure out why I was getting so few eggs sometimes. Give your newbies some time. I fully understand the egg demand! We always ask how many every day!
