We would have been there but I had to drop everything Thursday to run to Buffalo. DD has juvenile diabetes - she went to the college health center for an unrelated issue(nothing major) they checked her sugar & it was high. The morons pushed the panic button & wanted to put her in an ambulance to the nearest hospital for a BG that was totally manageable without hospitalization! She's had diabetes for a decade & we know the signs when she's in danger. She left the health center because they were giving her the creeps. I got there as fast as I could & by the time I arrived her sugar was NORMAL!!!! Needless to say, it was impossible to make the meeting.

She's fine now -- I am too! But Diabetes stinks!

Can't wait to see the chicks. I will have to look up the Silver Pied to see what they look like.

Happy Easter.

Yes, yes it does....Mark has it and I swear there is nothing worse than watching someone you love have a blood sugar episode...be it high or low! And then the daily rigors of monitoring....ugh! So I am glad that your dd is doing okay....I swear...you wanna cause mass panic at a health center...tell them the person you're with is a diabetic! OMG!! I actually had to do that once with Mark...we weren't together long and it was his first major low blood sugar episode...drove him to North Med urgent care and wow....talk about action-they had him back to rights within minutes. It took me a little while longer...talk about a complete wreck! Held it together long enough to get him there and ....you can imagine!

Happy Easter everybody!!

Happy Easter to everyone! The sun is shining (finally) and it is beautiful out. My girls had their breakfast, feeders filled, waterers filled and boss in the coop. They are outside enjoying the warm sun, perched on their roost. The babies had their brooder freshened up, water and food, some cuddling with chicken mommy and are now snoozing after a bit of digging around. All is well today.

Happy Easter to all as well!

Chickens are good but the pens are muddy. Sun went away and it has cooled off a little with the showers we're getting....sigh. There better be a LOT of May flowers this year!

Muggs: I would LOVE some peonies and Bee Balm I have some Red and Lavender in and will always take a little more since mine hasn't spread a lot YET! I have some Salvia and a couple other things that I would be more than happy to share! Most of my items are still young since they only went in last Spring/Summer but trust me there is always something to pull! I can hardly wait until the Cherry, Peach, Plum, Pear and Apple trees bloom along with the Magnolia and Dogwood! It will be oh so pretty in front of my house along the drive

The Silkies are coming the Silkies are coming! I have some along with BJG and BL/R Cochins that go into lockdown tomorrow along with some D'Anvers and a couple other dozen eggs. Too excited! I picked up the Silkies yesterday out of the egg turner - I was going to candle them but when I felt the babies moving around I got too excited and put them gently back in the turner. Wondering since it is day 17 if I should go ahead and turn off the egg turner on all the bantam and smaller breeds. Any suggestions? Should I let them go the one more day which is tomorrow or go ahead at the end of the day today????

The Silkies I got at TSC will definitely not be show quality as the ones I hatched were very close. It's amazing how you can tell the difference just by looking at them once you've had both types as they get older. These guys are very nice and I got some really cool colors - one is almost a lavendery-white already which really shows well against the blackish beak. They let me choose the ones I wanted when I got them at TSC which was nice because normally they'll just grab and then you hope you got what you saw. If I had a choice I would go with a better one like the eggs from a Silkie breeder or someone who shows.

I'm definitely no expert but I certainly have learned a lot from this site.

I understand about the Sugar thing! Runs on my Mom's side of the family and luckily we don't have it but I have had friends who had it and you just know and learn the signs. I also used to work in an Emergency room down in Virginia as an ER Secretary and many are the times we would have people come in that had been found in the last or very bad stages of sugar - man it can be very sad and scary!

Going out to work on some things outside we need to get done - got a bunch more daylilies specially from some big daylily place I ordered from and need to get them in the ground along with the rest of the coneflowers and sedum.

Hoping to chat again this afternoon!

Happy Easter to all!

GGrrrrrrrrr! Went through a bunch of my eggs before they go into lockdown tomorrow and found that a bunch just had not developed at all or had only made it to maybe day 3-7 and then just stopped. Very annoying but not too surprised! That is what happens when you try to hatch shipped eggs from out of State! Lost 38 eggs out of probably 80 plus so far - I guees that isn't sooo bad but most of them were either like I said never viable beyond a few days to having bacterial issues as could be seen by the speckled shells or just not fertile. So now I have brooder space - NO MORE EGGS this year unless someone is sitting on them (besides me

)

Sophie my Bantam Cochin is on the nest brooding and giving serious serious stink eye to anyone that gets close -tucked a couple other eggs under her yesterday and she was NOT happy. FINALLY, one of the BR hens is broody - about time they are older than Sophie and yet they seem to have not caught on as well.

Need another coop for the babies in the basement that are too big to be with the babies but because they are fancy or bantam like breeds need their own space to not get bullied!

If anyone is interested I do have the one cute little nankin, a seabright and a couple of SS Hamburgs I might be looking to sell. Have them on CL but would rather sell to someone who could appreciate their breed! PM me if interested. Meagan, maybe I can trade them for something you've got or Trish or Renee or ......(rubbing hands together with greedy smile....

Hope everyone had a great day and got some outdoor work or coopage work done!

Sounds like everyone is busy with flocks and family!

Is anyone planning on coming to the Swap meet on May 7th?
wee.gif

If you are coming and bringing birds to sell, what are you bringing?
droolin.gif

All my birds are breeder quality, not hatchery.

I will be bringing Wheaten Ameraucana chicks....I am into the blue wheaten and have these as extras. The chicks I'm getting from my b/w coop are very very nice...
Blue to blue yields 50% blue, 25% wheaten and 25% splash. $5 each on sale.

Several blue wheaten Ameraucana young pullets & cockerels as well. $10 each.

I will also have banty partridge Wyandotte chicks. The hen is sitting on 7 or 8 eggs that should hatch before the meet. Banties are good 4H showmanship birds. $4 each.

I don't know if I will have any Blue Laced Red Wyandottes as I am selling them right along and might not have any extras.

IF ANYONE NEEDS A BC MARANS COCKEREL, I HAVE A LOT! Will bring to the swap if you contact me before hand...free!

Sue

ps I will have totes that I used as nesting boxes until I got too old to bend down to get the eggs out.....

Also plastic waterers...3 & 7 gallons
